Supertopo can't get better than this: a great, detailed, and non-spray report, with photos and commentary by the FA's. This needs to go into some index somewhere, Chris Mac, to be preserved and be made find-able.

No, these climbs are neither "stout" or "elegant."

Whether on the left hand or the right, the climbing is: "prrrrecioussss."

Bump for these awesome climbs!

Spent an awesome day in the fall Valley El Cap sunshine!

The right is a humbling 5.8... nonetheless so fun from start to finish... it's true what everyone has says, the positions you find your body in climbing up this thing makes you laugh at loud!

Solid gear all the way!

Gollum, Left Side, was one of the few climbs I did with Jardine. I didn't know him then, and he was more of a ready body in the mood to tag along. I remember leading the Left Side without trouble and thinking it 5.9 probably, but then Jardine
was really huffing and puffing coming up, and I think he thought it was quite hard. I don't remember where he was at that time, in terms of his yoyo, hangdog stuff... Nor do I recall too much about the details of the route, other than that I felt comfortable on it it. It seemed trivial compared to something like the Crack of Fear or other Yosemite climbs I'd already done, such as Left Side of the Slack, or either side of Reed Pinnacle (those off-widths at the top)... I recall the reddish rock, a little different feel than El Cap in general...

Nice crux photos!

"Gollum is a fictional character from J. R. R. Tolkien's legendarium."

The name "The Gollum" doesn't sound like it's referring to a character name but rather a type of creature, such as the famous Golem of Prague.
