bvb, i've got one for ya!
bill, walt, sue and i would every winter go up to n.cal. to boat as the waters ran thin down here in yosemite. it was always a great two week adventure, not sure if the whitewater or the camping was the most fun! way out in sasquatch country we would find creeks and rivers to run, usually raining quite a bit so fun rigging of the tarps at bivis.
anyway we were to meet walt the next day and had time to do a small creek (tomki) and still have time to meet him the following day. class 3-4 and low water so it was a low stress fun run that sorta ran in a big loop with a five mile run and a one mile shuttle back to the put in.
bill, sue and i start off and are a few hundred feet downstream and the cool (seemingly wise) beagle that we had made friends with at the putin was following us, i was always in front (and kinda jacked up to be efficient on time or whatever), then sue and bill in the back. we were in a very tight small creek with fair sized rock drops with vegetation involved and lots of attention to not get whacked by it. bill realized that the cool pup was not going to go back (and we believe had been wanted to do this run for a long time.)
soon the terrain became cliffed out as we were into the main gorge and bill would console the pup (when it would voice loudly that it was scared) and bill would talk the dog into hair raising river crossings to the other side of the river, over and over bill would softly console the pup through the sections, one at a time, very pateintly till we got through the thick of it.
things started to mellow and we made the takeout only to find that mctwisted had failed to grab the keys and stupidly had no hidakey.
bill and pup started jogging right away without even a discussion one mile to bills truck.
i think bill's new friend did that run several times after being guided down it by bill

Just going through my notes and filling in the blanks on stuff from the 80s.
The stuff below is just from memory; from putting together lists of things I did with individual people.
This is as good as any place to log it!

In the Valley, 1985 through 1989 - Billy and I climbed, though not in order listed:

Henley Quits
Chingando
Gollum Left Side
Meatgrinder
Vendetta
Pulpit Pooper
The Sermon
Twilight Zone
East Buttress Lower Cathedral
PowerPoint Higher Cathedral

Here's to you Bill!

i had a pretty funny experience with coiler and swilliam in a random c4 site that belonged to a couple of brits. coiler was yelling at the tool for shooting at a bear across the street and they swung the lights in our direction. swilliam bee-lines for a tree and makes like a matchstick; i think he had more to lose than me or coiler. coiler continued with his monkeyshow unabated, of course, and the brits were none too happy. there was alcohol involved.

He's as humble as he is a great person. All joking aside, what a great friend to us all. And, cheers!
