NPR just did a profile on Fugazi.

This, in addition to so many other aspects of their reporting, makes me thankful to have this resource available.

Respect!

I love it.

Righties complain it's terribly biased, but when pressed for data supporting their charges of bias, we get...surprise, surprise...crickets.

I'll buy the Right's argument that NPR has a liberal bias (though not as much as most of those ranting ideologues claim), but still, the rational reporting, topic diversity, and lack of hyperbolic screaming or regular sugary tabloid topics generates a helluvalot more thought. I can't think of a similarly rational Right-leaning media source.

It's great. They just had an interview with their new C.E.O, and he is very clear about how it is of extreme importance to report the news honestly without taking political stances-I believe their employees may not be allowed to act politically outside work as well, if i understood the interview correctly...

Anyway, I think it's excellent.

On a side note, an interview with Richard Branson today on NPR-he is VERY inspiring and my new business hero!!!!

I was going to add a slight political rant, but it's the holidays and feeling very non-confrontational (hopefully that lasts through the family visit ;-). We all know what we know and believe what we believe. SO yay NPR is what I say!

Driving my Sales-Rep 30,000 miles a year, mostly in the "middle of nowhere"

NPR has been great for me.

I received a free Sirius satellite radio subscription with a new 4-Runner last year, then Heidi bought a 1 year extension.

I still mostly listen to NPR

except when I want to:

I'M SO ANGRY THAT PUBLIC RADIO BROADCASTS A VARIETY OF VOICES THAT I DON'T ALWAYS AGREE WITH WHAT IS THIS CRAP

Well, I also find Richard Branson inspiring. Perhaps not for the same reason you do...

But to get back to the point of this thread, I do like NPR. It's often compared to Canada's CBC, but having lived in both Canada and the US, and listened to both, I prefer NPR by a considerable margin.

I drive s lot and most radio is absolute crap. That's the reason I got Sirius, so that I could always get NPR?

Ghost:

I recall seeing that photo of Branson & a Succubus previously.

I think he/they are about to "Parasail" or whatever the rich & moneyed clueless do in Mexico---with a parachute, waterskies, & motorboat.

NPR never asked me to visualize that particular photo.

Please, John, tell me this is a troll.

I think it was some time around the time of the 1st Gulf War (early 90s) that it became apparent to me what a tool NPR really is. Try a little Democracy Now! for a change. And. for some real perspective, sack up and listen, really listen, to Alex Jones once in a while. Neither of these is right on everything, but no one is. Especially NPR!

And, with the recent reduction in government funding where do you think they will turn for the neccessary funding? You and me? Poor little listeners? Yeah, right . . .

Its called corporate sponsorship, Cupcake! (Which, of course, has no bearing on what stories, or spin is allowed to air)God, grow up! Smell some coffee or something.

NPR is just as much propaganda as CNN or Fox. The only real difference is the audience.

Uh, I do listen to Democracy Now. And BBC World Report. I get them through one of the local NPR stations.

Oh, but according to you, NPR is just a government tool, so I guess that means Democracy Now must suck too.

Oh, yay...war is here. Now we can have some really insightful discussion!

"Try a little Democracy Now! for a change. And. for some real perspective, sack up and listen, really listen, to Alex Jones once in a while. Neither of these is right on everything, but no one is. Especially NPR!"

Rich, it's all about having broad perspective, isn't it? I'm as suspicious of someone who listens solely to KPFK as I am of FauxNews droids. No doubt, NPR can sometimes work so hard at being MOR that they wind up making themselves inconsequential, and I'd love to see them grow a set and go after real issues and political slimeballs more directly.

In the spectrum of media sources, they have a very important place, and they serve it very well- far better than any equal counterpoint on the right end of the spectrum (I have no idea what that is, BTW.)

For the record...in general, I find Democracy Now! to be just too shriekingly far left for my tastes, but they do generate some stunning pieces from time to time. It's all about balance.
