Compassionate, patient, helpful with Yosemite info, and as Karl pointed out, he engages LEB on meaningless threads in order to prevent the Lois-ification of other threads!

A toast (or five) to you Karl!

I am glad to see this thread start! KB is probably the most useful and important poster here, frankly. As a pro guide and a lifetime climber his presence here is really wonderful. He is a good photographer, a very good and really solid outdoorsman and climber. And his constant and fully engaged attempts to keep the ST on track are invaluable for all of us. This forum and Yosemite climbing are ever so much better because of you, Karl. And as you always say, Peace!

best to you Karl, Peter Haan

Wow, Karls second appreciation thread....Ed, what is a Mensch?

Hey Karl, I never talked to you back in the day, because you were the Man. I remember your kind smile, but did not trust anyone from security. Boy ,was I wrong about you. Should of realized it ,the day of # Yabo's bike incident#. I was at the Ahwahnee dorm that day with Yabo, Irma and Terry Counts ,when it went all wrong.....another sad day in Yosemite.

Karl from your posts, I can tell you are a Great person, and a friend to be had. I am so sorry if I was rude to you. Hope to make it to the park clean up in Sept, and hope to see you and John Moosie. Love nita;-)

Hi Nita

No worries sweetness. I thought you were fine around me. It was my partner "gestaopo John" who really rubbed you the wrong way. You were probably a bit wrong about him but he did have an arrogant side. He's way cool now though and still a good friend. I could see right through to know you were a cool Spirit and Liked Tomaselli Too, even when we had drama's to unfurl.

moving it back to the front page....I have appreciated Karl's wise words on the world, the tone in which he manages to express his views, his photos, his offers of discounted prints to dirtbags, and his helpful beta here on the Taco. Such a great part of a wonderful community.

We also bumped into Karl and some friends last year on our first day of a week in the Valley, cragging at the Church Bowl. He could not have been more welcoming or friendly, despite our rather anonymous nature around here and fairly shy personalities. Of course he did snake the Lieback out from under us while we wandered around the base ;) Later on I led Revival, not a proud route but at least my first 10a lead in the Valley.

Karl, you seem to bring happiness and consciousness to the corners of the world you inhabit - well done.

A little practical detail, since folks besides homieland suckerity may check this thread. A couple of my common emails addresses guide at newsguy.com and peaklight at newsguy.com seem to find their way into spam boxs at Yahoo, SBC and others.

I never spam anybody (at least in a bulk way) so my isp must be dicey. In any case, if anyone ever expects an email from me and it isn't there, check your spam box and mark me not spam.

I know there's a spam joke here but I'm not too much of a morning person so It's all I can to to type this much before heading out to climb

OT thread drift alert!

Since the subject of SPAM came up. When I was a kid I had a lot of Navajo friends, and they ate SPAM like crazy. Lots of them lived without electricity and it's meat you can keep without refrigeration. Anyway, its kind of a traditional food in the right crowd and there is a funny Navajo nickname for it, bilaganos nikos. Thats almost certainly not spelled right, I just spelled it phoneticly, but it means white mans neck. I ate a lot of it as a kid.

Karl,

With cobra eyes and Hendricks hair and an Eveready grin, you approach life like a well-grounded yet high-climbing buddha. There is a tie-dyed wisdom far beyond your years in the posts you share, and a lovely earthiness in your outlook on life.

Like many, I consider you the bellwether for the political sanity of this climbing community, and, as Wild Bill so aptly pointed out, the au par for the more socially/politically/intellectually challenged of this forum.

I'm sure you'll be amply rewarded for that albatross next time around.

I gotta chime in here. I've climbed with Karl for a few days the last couple of years and wow. Such fun on the rock, such great conversation. His insights are enlighting. Karl has cracked open some doors in my mind that still need to be explored. But at least the door is cracked.

Can he climb? Oh hell yeah. We get to a ledge. I'm looking up and see NO route. Up he scampers, palming and smearing and quickly out of sight. "Come on Sammy, you're on belay. Just try it. Trust you feet. Use small holds and edges. Come on, you can do it!" And damned if he wasn't right. I made it. He improved my climbing by at least a point in three days. He took me up Royal Arches, someting I'd wanted to do since I started climbing. Super fun.

Karl, well, he's da man.

Karl,
just kidding about the sack part, the rest is true.

You do need to get up there. I've been getting up there by 9:00 and have until about 1:00 until it's to hot on the left side.

I took the park geologist up there last week. He was amazed with the cave formation on one route. He has never seen or heard of anything like it in granite.

Wawona dome was Quality! I needed the exercise.

My shame is it took 22 years of living in Wawona to get there.

My lazyness has been a virtue that has saved many good climbs until I needed the exercise to hike to them.

Thanks to the locals like you and Erik who put up good routes and keep the trail clear.
