If you could email it to me at the address in my profile I'd appreciate it.

Likewise with Eugene Dodd...

Or for that matter, any of the folks that climbed at both Beacon and the Valley in the 60's and 70's...

Used to see Kim a bunch in the Tetons, grinding out the approach up Garnet Canyon with a bunch of clients.

Seems like I saw him in Jackson, WY a year or two ago as well.

You might try Exum...

Google Kim Schmitz climber. Lots of stuff. The top entry is from Exum Mountaineering, recording his retirement from guiding in 2004. http://www.exumguides.com/news/schmitz.shtml

Perhaps he could be contacted through Exum?

I spoke with Ron K. this morning; he hadn’t heard anything on this. He hasn’t seen Kim in a few years though and also didn’t know if someone would call him if something had happened to him. So I’m still in the dark. My cell number for Peggy has lost a digit so I’m not getting through. I bet Jim B. knows if anyone.

I don't know anything about this and it's news to me. So Mike Paul will have to explain as he seems to be the one who knows.

I would try Kim's mother's house in Oakland, California. Kim's been a bit sick and I think would love to hear from any of his old buds..

A non-climbing friend of mine in Jackson knows him from some bar. Seems like he's still kickin'.

Sounds like maybe another classic case of "The rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated..."

Will try some Schmitz's in Oakland unless one of you folks actually acquainted with Kim would like to take the lead on that (I'd certainly prefer that one of his friends be the one to call...)

If any climber would know his email it would be his friend Jack Turner. I tried to contact Jack tonight but couldn’t get in touch. If I find out I’ll post his email address here.

My understanding is that Kim is still suffering complications from his 80 foot fall on Symmetry Spire in 1983. But I don't know the details.

This rumor may have started from a old catalog photo of Kim years ago. The caption read "the late Kim Schmitz". I don't recall what catalog it was but I was surprised when I read it as I didn't hear squat about it and non of the climbing rags had printed anything either. Just a sick joke I guess.

The last I heard from Kim is that he is working with alcholics to help them with their problems.

Sorry, healyje, Haven't been able to contact Jack Turner, yet. I asked Tom Turiano but he didn't know. Exum guides weren't answering when I called. A ranger at park headquarters believes he no longer lives in Moose but thought he might be living in Jackson. I tried a Jackson directory at the Idaho Falls library, but it was dated and had no listing for Kim.

Sorry to say folks that I could have been mis-informed, I hadn't seen him since Can't Say had brought him over to where we lived in San Diego, and that was years ago. I don't exactly remember where I heard this but am overjoyed to hear that it may not be true. He was an excellent person to be sure when I hung out with him.

No, I'm generally not into guidebooks but there are some of us interested in the early history of the place and routes, tracking down other old Beacon climbers, and generally learning a bit more about what went down there in the 60's and 70's.

Roy daddyo,

You are welcome to my old dated book. :)

Maybe I can figure out a way to make it up to you for your early CityRock efforts somehow. I might have a few plastic holds you could use for target practice, or make a sculpture or sumpin.

I am trying hard to come out to Denver Oct. 18-20 for a conference, if I pull it off I will definately visit!

Big smooch to ya
