Billy,

Don't know how broke your car is, but if you are interested, I could loan you $250.
We could even work it out in a trade. My parents are in their 80s and 90s, and have never seen me climb. Maybe you could take some poser pics of me for them?

I have no doubt that Russ and T*R could replace that clutch right there at the compound.

surely there is a paypal account for the world class photography of the Bloot?

if not, what about funneling it through the "Fire Russ a Beer" paypal link @ Fishproducts . com? include a note on where you want the money to go. We're talking about two of the most sincere, honest/direct people I know (except for the shittalking, but I really do mean that) it will get there.

Russ and I stopped the Blitzo Crashpad today to deliver the bike (as his last pick up was from Locker). No Blitzo. Way out on the sand and NO Blitzo. All we saw was a dead Subaru and a stack of "recyclables".

Poor Blitzo. 1/2 bar of cell service, No internet, No clutch and lives wayyyy out on the sand, man.

Where is Blitzo?

Blitzo needs like $250 in parts and the same in half asssed mystery guy labor..... $500 or so. At a real place the price can go up to $1200 or so.

Believe me.... I've heard the story at least 4876 times in the last couple of months.

It may have been easier dropping the engine and replacing the clutch of a VW Beetle, an experience we all had. Modern engines and trannies are a bit more complex, although the principles are the same.

And, as t*r notes, you could always bash things with a rock until they worked.

It sounds like Blitzo's having a rough patch, and we should at least pretend that we're trying to help. Though I guess on a Friday night we can have a bit of fun, too. And with LL at the wheel, for a trip with Blitzo to the monadnock on the peneplain, with a house hunting mission as a sidecar (I think I picked that up on a thread next door).

That sweetens the pot considerably for anybody donating to the cause; ’cause that’s quite a trip report for Locker to doll up as the photo’s role in….Never mind the clutch.

I finally got a hold of Billy today.

I didn't ask his permission before starting this thread, just felt it needed to be done.

I believe that he may not feel real comfortable accepting money from us, but it is definitely needed, and would be appreciated.

He said that he would be willing to work for the money.

I am going to hire him for some photography work to be done this fall out in JT, but i am going to pay him now.

Any of you that have seen his photos know that he is very good at it.

Anyone going to be climbing in JT next season and want to get some good pictures taken? You and your belayer can focus on climbing, and let the professional take the pictures that will provide you the memories of a lifetime.

Send him the money now, and he will definitely give you your moneys worth.

Not trying to over dramatize, but at this point this could be seriously jeopardizing his health.

I would appreciate any and all help that could be given at this time.

thank you.

I'll put up for Blitzo's benefit, a 16 x 20 YABO poster SIGNED by the artist BULLWINKLE.

(I have a very limited stash of signed posters, set aside for purposes such as this; I will dole the others out to similar causes along the way -this is the only one which will go to Blitzo)

 $50 ... I will pay for shipping.

Do the pay pal thing for BLITZO, $50.00, and when it's confirmed I will ship you the poster.
*FIRST YOU MUST ANNOUNCE* your intention to purchase it here, so we don't get multiple payments for the single poster offered.

When you do pay pal you can send him a message.
Put your name and address in the message, with a note that it is for the YABO poster so he can forward your address to moi.

Black-and-white poster nicely printed on thick stock (rolled very tightly so be prepared to frame it).

Hey Roy, do you remember the year that photo was taken? Judging by the stupid hair-do and the shirt, I think it was shortly after I left my job as convention set-up supervisor at Caesar's Tahoe. I think maybe 1983 or 84.

I used to know which year that photo was taken but I can't remember with any reliable accuracy right now.
It is probably stamped on the slide, at least the development date?

I've got a number of parking lot photos from that particular year and if I had to guess, based on collateral memories and other photos from that same run, I would say it was 1985; but 1983 is also quite likely.

Hey Lynne,

Jingy isn't wrong. He is not attacking God, he is attacking the christian church. They talk a good game, but fail to be what god called them to be, focusing more on judgement then on Love. If Jingy is wrong about that then Revelations is also wrong. What does revelations say? Something like 7 out of 8 churches have failed to be love.

Lynne: that is a gracious offer..... but let's do the math.....

Bloot has no money, no real job (not for the lack of trying), and credit that would make a pirate blush.....

How is he going to buy a new car? He can't get the $500 together to fix a clutch in 3 months of effort. The $4500 Obama HooptyFund™™™ just puts him into a shiny 12K debt, and that is if he could ever get a loan, which is a below zero chance.

The quote "god helps those who help themselves" isn't in the new or the old testament. It may have originated in Aesop's Fables (!), and was repeated in Sidney Algernon's Discourse on Government, and by Benjamin Franklin in Poor Richard's Almanack.
http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Algernon_Sydney

(Algernon got his head chopped off, for opposing English king Charles II.)

Whatever Aesop was, he was undoubtedly not a christian. Neither was Ben Franklin - he was a deist. It doesn't seem a particularly christian sentiment.

Hi Lynne,

Nice offer for the clunker , but the person trading in the car must have had the car registered to them for at least a year.

This scenario does not work for " one adam sidewall BLOOTO"

Hi kids!
Sorry, I haven't been online in about 5 days. It's a long hard bike ride to a computer an it's worse in the wind. It was pretty windy for a couple days. I drank 3 liters of wine one day and didn't really feel like riding on the sabbath. Yesterday libraries were closed and I went climbing with locker and cosmic. Today I rode to the Fish Compound and am online.
Thanks so much everyone that was able to help me out! I have a little more than $600.00. That should cover everything as long as there are no additional problems found.
Robert and locker, I don't use chapstick, I use carmex, I like the way it burns! Keep me out of your homosexual fantasies.
Lynne, thank you for your offer. If I had a way I would come and get that car, but I think it would be more trouble than it would be worth. If that offer stays open, maybe I could get down there and check it out some time.

BTW Lynne, as much as that's a great offer something else to consider if trying to turn the car in for $4500 clunker deal is that it has to have been insured AND registered to the person turning it in for at least the past year.

You might be eligible but others wouldn't. Besides, who wants to get rid of such a nice vintage rig? You should fix it and drive it to work all proud style.

So... yeah, but you can read my writings however you want.

I think I know the answer to the age old question "What would Jesus do?" - He'd probably help a guy out in any way he could... But then again, we are talking about a human being who lived a long time ago, and only have the interpretations of those before us to guide our responses...

Has nothign to do with JC, has nothing to do with the church.. maybe I'm just offering up an excuse for those who have not offered assistance to the Blute.. maybe not...

It will make his life much more managable and INDEPENDENT again...

yeah.... mine too.

Towing the car was as expected way funny.... Locker is going to do the towing, I'll be holding off traffic in my car behind the Bloot, who will be in the dead car.

We prepare the tow rope, some old 1" tubular, and get the plan straight... we were talking about doing it late at night so there would be no traffic.... instead we take off at rush hour! Bloot drives the first few miles at about 25 with the clutch spinning the engine up to like 4500k..... then he pulls over, right in the middle of an intersection. Seems we have two problems..... Bloot has forgotten the parts, and Locker has lost the directions to the mechanics house. We abandon the Bloot_mobile™ right where it sits, basically blocking the intersection and I take the Bloot back to his house to get the parts, while Locker goes into a Mom and Pop market to get a soda.... oh yeah... I'm as good as out of gas too......

Upon our return, Bloot hops in the car to continue trying to drive it..... it goes exactly 4" before we need to hook up the tow rope!

Finally, we are under way, Locker towing and the Bloot giving hand signals out the window on which way he thinks the dudes house is.... directions are still missing....

Locker sorta knows where he is going and we are making good time.... no less than 3 different cops pass us and never even gave a look... there are bigger crimes up in the high desert than this going on all the time. Locker starts to check the street signs for the mechanics street... but about 3 miles too early, so the pace is slowing... that and his eye is giving him some trouble so he is driving with one hand over his eye, the other hand out the window giving directions. That does not leave a lot of hands for the driving part, but he is doing well....

We find it, and coast the Bloot_Mobile™ to the curb. Bloot rousts the guy from his mac_and_cheese dinner and and signs some paperwork that says there will probably be extra charges... Right about now Locker finds the directions..... With the car now at the mechanic the Bloots blood pressure drops back down to a high normal (he is kinda high strung for stuff like this) and the mission is complete, for now. Locker heads back home, I go looking for a gas station on vapor, and the Bloot decides he is hungry and needs beer. Me and the Bloot celebrate by eating some fake Panda Express and scoring (if you could call it that) some Old Milwaukee that was on sale.

PR,

hmmm, got it, but that was the real deal.

I do work for the military and the government in restricted areas. Some
times they even take my cellphone from me.

I know that there should be cell coverage in the area, but they got so much stuff in the air out there, it messes my wifi and cellular up.

The only people who are woefully short on donations are what we affectionately refer to as, "The Christians". I don't have the figures in front of me, but ZERO comes to mind. I guess they are not interested in helping out an Atheist down on his luck.

Note: you can still donate.... it ain't like there is a ton of $$$ sitting here and there will be extra charges, for sure.

for what it's worth.... i'm saving my pennies for the large quantities of beer I'm bringing to blizo. There's a couple places locally that have 100's of varieties. I'm looking forward to stocking up and 31 or more flavors and letting blitzo tell me what he thinks (until he stops thinking).

So I guess there's that and the fact that I dropped almost $3K trying to save my dog. Uhg....

Cuz I sure as sh#t don't fall into "The Christians" category.

Hey Locker! go check out the "getting a new dog thread". Just the end of it will do ya!

Got my thank you email from the Blitzter about a week later, which was unexpected, and it was good to know that I had a hand in his recovery (though the Blitz still has a way to go! LOL)

Russ Walling - Thanks for getting my back up there.. thought I was going to get a rant about hypocracy from the zipster.. All's good.
Love that part about the missing funds, or lack of response from the affectionate Christians... I'd like to know how closely people who say they are of the cloth are prepared to back up the claim of the cloth...

Nature - How is the Blitz going to keep these beer's cold wihtout a fridge? Or electricity..? Good luck on the penny drive!

Locker - He must have been really appreciative... and you let it go on until fruition... twice!!! LOL

Don't let anybody tell you you are not pulling your weight... for taking two on the leg for the group... You can smile big!!!

dial up, may be slow, but it opens a very important door to the world...

my buddies in montana, too, barely get by, and they use dial up, as well....

otherwise, we'd all be needing more gas in the ol' tanks to run out to the library---mine is a bit close, but they 'd be going off to town, then... whewwwwwwwww...

say, nice to know we ain't the only ones that can't go "modern"

hey there ol' locker... say, you are SO RIGHT... you know, i can't understand how folks use the credit cards and keep doing such, when they STILL have not paid what they owed... it seems very scary to me... and also, not properly fair to the folks that you owe... etc...

our folks taught us to pay NOW, and if there was any left over, then save that, too---unless there was a real need, or, unless you had enough saved so that you could afford to use a little for that "whatever it is" that you waited for...

i love my folks for that.... :)

say, we DID used to do lay-away.. remember those days?
it taught us how to balance, when we wanted something that we couldnt pay for immediatly... :)

say, yep things may be slower and as to "machinery here" and it may seem tough to wait through the slowness, but, patience is GOOD FOR US... we don't get SPOILED that way... :)

note: but, not saying that others are spoiled---being that i know that to have a good machine in working order, is a blessing and saves many long hours, that many folks DO NEED for other stuff... and they can help folks, faster and easier, too...

say, you know locker, i know MORE folks than i did 10 years back, that live OVER their means... (i think due to the fact, that in south texas, folks lived from day to day, as that was all they could do in our area) ...

many folks in the areas i've been in lately, life different than that, though... and many are younger and more modern, and for some reason, they don't understand the danger, of not learning to do without, first, or, building up to better things... (and in some case, just staying a even keel level)...

they dont know that one needs a SOLID foundation, BEFORE you can learn to live with more...

well, cheers to your good foundation dear locker... you ARE succeeding where many folks never will... :)
and happy god bless to you this morning...

oh my:
seems i stayed up all night, cheering up a friend, by phone.. one that had paid hours, though (and is living through these modern times, in a slower simpler way, too)... (she's had hard times through winter, too, like me, and most likely, perhaps like you have---but the spring and sunshine always come again, and we are then glad for it)...

well, once again, god bless... thanks for the interesting share...

I always thought of Blitzo as sort of the Pit Bull! Heard so many stories of Meth heads jacking any thing you don't have on your back if you so much as turn your head - I kind of felt the Pit was a safer place with Blitzo in residence.

As for me - My winter is up in the air right now. Clients will have my head on a plate if I don't return to NYC in December.... So, if I go west, it will be that I sell my dog business to my assistant(I mentioned the possibility today and he would be interested).

If I can continue the caretaker job at the Coxing Kill cabin for the season next year....then I may forego the winter road trip idea and spend the time from Dec-March giving more effort to growing my hair accessory business, and... selling the dog biz in March, and.....possibly giving up my apartment.

But - like I said - it's up in the air. This caretaker gig came from out of the blue and has made me rethink my position.....

But _ I would still, of course, at least do a trip to Jtree in December, as is my tradition.

The only reason I was curious on make, model, year and the laundry list is that I can get somewhat a discount on parts. Not as much on a Subaru as compared to Toyota-but still.

I was also curious if the additional items could be budgeted-or is it better to do it now when the trans out.

Nah, Locker, ain't got two hearts, shoot, right now I'm being careful with money, too. Haven't worked in almost a year.
But Russ and Sue gave Blitzo the "thumbs up" and that was good enough for me. Figured he could use it more then me.

Hey zip.. last I checked.. you had a regular income (did I read "working for the government", and doesn't that mean contracted????), unlike our friend blitzo.

If your gonna bail on the dude now, after starting this frickin thread, then i have to ask.. WTF?

Bloot, I get paid soon.. you;ll get paid soon.. although, I have to save a little something for facelift.. I'll be taking a much deserved breakfast buffet at the Curry whatever that place is.....

Thought this thing was near over, last I read it was due this coming saturday.. what happened? Where's it at now?

Update on progress maybe blitzo?

Jingy,

I am not going anywhere, just don't understand why we are still jerking around with this.

I know that you have made a healthy contribution, and i am sure Billy appreciates it.

Dude, i don't want you to tap the reserves to make this happen. Save your money for Facelift.

I am just trying to get some help from the smart asses by requesting a $5 cover charge for every rip.

This is taking way too much of my Internet time that i could spend looking at porn.

A giant, pale, and flaccid Blitzo, man cans up, laying on a pad in the shop, snoring.

I can't go on like this much longer. The man needs his wheels. He needs to go home. I want my wretched life back.....

Maybe a Storage Locker mini-coolio-fest can happen here too!!

How about a location for the current locker...

How much is the rent there?

How long has blitzo had this locker... Why can't we all band together to get the dude a Tuff-Shed for his own personal compound on his lot in JT?

IDK... ideas for recovery of the Bloot are better than nothing...

Second Thought Edit: maybe once we get the Blootoes life back in order, we can start to see some the fruits of our labor... Photos of the bloot in the car, pulling a trailer-full of the other photos in the locker... Then a post of the photos from the locker here!!

Probably one of the axle seals that mount in the trans case. Easy to bugger up when pulling the axles. Good news is that you can pull the cv fairly easily to replace the seal.
