Today I took my first leader fall! (Well, there goes that cherry.) It is way better than coffee to get you going.

My dad wanted to go for an early morning hike so I told him about a really cool place to go. I called my buddy up and said be at our house at six. We arrived at Table Mountain about 640 or so. I wanted to stay out of the heat as much as possible and be back early enough to help my wife get ready for our daughter's birthday party. She was gracious enough to let me go. She is the best wife ever! So we hiked in to the Grotto and were the only ones there. That's another reason I love getting an early start. So I scoped out the route and decided on Side Saddle. Two reasons for this: first it's the only one lower than 5.10 and second it's the easiest route there. There is nothing like being shut down at the crux not once not twice but thrice. So I can't lead 5.9 like I thought but oh well. So I get to the crux and pop off for a good 10 foot fall. It's a strange feeling willing your fingers to grip and have them fail and come off the wall. It ended up being a good time and a nice way to start the day.

thanks for reading

Leader falls can be pretty hairball exciting, that's fo' sho'.
Just remember, if you're not fallin', at least some, then you're not pushin'.
You can get up some pretty amazing features, pushin'.....
Get back up there.......
