Between 5am-6am on Sunday June 19, we were packing up our bivy to find the real north dome gulley (from a spot about 1/4 mile east). I thought a jet plane was about to go supersonic over our heads, but it turned out to be a huge sheet of rock cascading off the face of Half Dome (which we watched), landing on the far right side of the main gulley near the slabs approach. Huge white dust cloud, it spread out across 1/2 mile of air at about the same altitude as where the rockfall hit the slopes.

hope nobody was approaching for RNWF in a day.

we were sleeping in the pines campground and heard it-

well ok, i slept right through it, and whatshername claimed she'd heard a big rockfall... i told her it was probably just garbage trucks or something, wrong again!

This is really how the story goes...
Matt and I (his fiancee) our dog and my little brother were camped at the North Pines. Somewhere around 5 am-ish I heard what sounded like a combination of thunder and a loud plane flying overhead shortly followed by the sound of individual rocks crashing to the ground. I woke matt up and said to him that I thought I had just heard a huge rockfall. He mumbled "it was probably just a garbage truck" and rolled back over in his sleep. I sat up listening for a few minutes now questioning what I had just heard. I said to matt "why am I still not hearing the garbage truck" to this he replied with a loud fart -"there's your garbage truck" I than overheard our neighbors who were also awoken by the sound ( the rockfall not the fart) talking about it and was reassured that I was not hearing things.
