Is there any chance that the Tioga Pass road will reopen this year? If we have prolonged warm weather would they open it - or do they just keep it closed this time of year?

Don't know what policy is, but based on last year's experience there is some hope they will re-open if it melts out.

Despite the early storms last year we were able to drive back over Tioga post our T-day Bishop extravaganza.

Anybody know policy?

Not sure about a policy, but back at New Years 2000 (you remember, Y2K?) the road was open and I had friends from Berkeley make the voyage over to Bishop for an end-times celebration. As it turned out it was just warm and we had a great time in the 'milks. No telling for this year.

It's hard to tell, without a current webcam image available... I seriously doubt it will open again tho. Last webcam image I saw (last weekend), there was quite a bit of snow up there. Looking at the mammoth webcam image, there is a ton of snow there. They certainly will not plow the road, at this point. I wouldn't count on it opening again this season.

Really odd tho, as most other roads in the state are open, at elast south of Yos - Courtright/Wishon, Beashore Meadows, Vermillion/Edison, etc... Apparently we just haven't had as much snow on this side of the hills...

Um yeah Coz, the answer is no.

Once, in a drought year, I went over it with Tim Washick in the 12th month.

There are more rules now.
Conditions are largely irrelevant.

Ever since the death of a worker clearing the snow, the park is much more cautious about opening the pass.

Sounds like Y2K, Matt. The pass was open crazy late that year. Was still open when I left for Egypt at the end of December.

The most recent picture on the Yosemite Association Tioga Pass webcam is from Tuesday night. Sure looks snowy, but it's hard to tell how much snow there is, or whether the road has been plowed.

The site says the photo is updated four time a day, but perhaps not.

Ahh yes, Y2k. I drove over the pass a few days before New Years Eve and stayed at TPR Lodge. So much for the ski in. Funny thing was is snowed New Years Eve a few inches. Enough apparently for the Park to close the pass behind me. Sure made the drive home a LOT longer.

Would be nice to get it open from the east just to get up to North Peak or Dana. May have to break out the quad to get up there!!

From the park media person- no official decision yet.

That being said, as warm as it's supposed to be over the weekend, long term forecasts are calling for snow a week from Saturday. If any of those storms materialize, Tioga will likely be officially done for the year.

Any update on this? Seems like it'd be a good idea seeing as it's nearly Thanksgiving and travelers could really benefit. I just looked at the long term forecast and it looks clear at least up to Thanksgiving.

I want to do the Valley, Tuolumne, east side loop!

So it really comes down to what I want. So open it up man!

I asked this at the Nose 50th. No, it will not. Not enough resources and there's snow up there.

And where the heck were you, Coz!?
