I started to get started, but then changed my mind...

This should be interesting. Especially since someone mentioned Lober! hahaha

I *will* say cheers to Link! He was always fair, thoughtful and well spoken. Jesse seems to be OK too.

Have friends and acquaintances in YoLEO. Obviously there are a lot of good folks who value living in Yosemite.

and naturally, the few bad experiences anybody has stick out in their mind.

If you've been rescued by some of them or know them outside work, you can know some are great.

Problem is, in general, any LEO person has almost nothing fun to award or hand out. The best they can generally offer if they pull you over is nothing, so naturally it's hard to win popularity contests.

Even worse, I'm imagining that in Tool School they teach you to establish your dominance and authority in any encounter (cause you could get killed or beaten yourself) so a Not-So-Nice Demeanor can be standard practice for some LEO who can't figure out a nicer way to keep control on their side.

Peace

Had only one experience, drove past him at the speed limit after a controlled burn, he flipped a U and sped up to me huffing and puffing a storm. Told me I was speeding and now was going to get a ticket. Sat in his car for 40 minutes on the radio, said he couldn't give me a ticket because he didn't actually see me speeding, just said I looked like I was going fast. Very, very abrasive and unproffessional, said I drove like an idiot because I lived in San Diego (??).

Before he let me go, said "Do you have any pot?"
me: *looking him in the face "I have never done drugs in my life (true)"
him: "I smell smoke."
me: "Its a controlled burn..."

Puffed out his chest and walked away.

Besides this single case, every LEO I've met has been absolutely perfect, a speeding ticket I got in Mammoth was handled so proffessionally I actually made a friend, so I can't really say anything bad about YNP LEO's except that the only encounter I had was with a very young, overweight angry dude. We all get bad days, it happens... Just most of us don't get bad days with a badge to push around.

Some people just haven't gotten beaten up enough yet :D

"he said "Do you have any pot?""

Surprised he asked, really. When I lived in the park, it was pretty common to see an illegal search go down daily...

Oh man, I WISHED he would search the car, tear it apart and find nothing so I could sit there smug. I had nothing to do that day but drive 7 hours home, it would have been a great way to distract myself (was near Wawona).

If I would have known me and my buddies would have packed a inconspicuous looking black bag with rubber dildos, BDSM leathers and an inflatable sheep. Maybe I'll just leave that in my trunk. I could imagine no sweeter victory than to be labeled a "homo agitator."

Don't wanna be too smug or he WILL find something, if you know what I'm saying.

find things we do. bust you in a heart beat...I will.

I enjoy using the thermal imaging to find people sleeping in the woods.

Really we(LEO's) have nothing better to do @ 2am, so why not go out and ruin a peaceful sleep.

Kinda like ruining a peaceful protest against usergroups.

you can sleep in your car all day long but come night fall don't even think about it.

On one hand - any person that on a daily basis must spend their time admonishing people for their ignorance can only sooner or later develop the impression that all people are either idiots or guilty of something.

On the other hand - you reap what you sow.

Locker edit:

I was told by a old guy once upon a time that there are two classes of people that you could rightly be biased towards.

Cops and lawyers.

Because no one is born as either.

Can only make a judgement call from my own experience. BITD when hub was on a wall, they let me sleep in the van in a parking lot and even cruised by to make sure I was ok.

Update to now, I was an idiot old-noobie at yellow pine and they warned me, no tickets.

Last week they let me in 3 single days on a one day pass for the Nose Reunion cause I wasn't staying overnight.

It's about how you interact and hey, sometimes they just be havin' a bad day like the rest of us. (Like today even) Lynnie

I've had good and bad.
Bad was some ranger on a horse in campo quatro. Dude was an as#@&%e and singled me out of a group of revelers to make an example I guess. Eventually he realized he was being an ass and chilled out.

Good was when I climbed serenity crack with a female partner scrounged up in camp 4 - turned out she was the wife of Jack (last name?) Had coffee and a good long conversation with them after the climb in their home. Good peeps.
