Without Bob Keeshan I would never have become whatever it is I am, today.

Why is it that Mr. Green Jeans never gets his props?

When I was a kid, Captain Kangaroo was still Lieutenant Kangaroo.

And Hobo Kelly had a house.

To tell the truth, I only got to watch Kaptain Kangaroo when I was *sick* and stayed home from school. School must have started early where I lived, because I was always out of the house before his show began.

I have very pleasant memories of Mom and me singing songs from our Captain Kangaroo album. Or 78. I forget some of the words, but our favorite song started…

A riddle-a-diddle
A rhyme is a clue
And I am Captain Kangaroo.

The first part of my name is in the Army
The second part is in the zoo

Can’t remember the rest. As my Dad got transferred to various and sundry Naval bases, I hoped he’d end up being a shipmate with Captain Kangaroo.

Still do….

I grew up with the Cap'n.

I didn't know carrots had those long green stems until Mr Green jeans took them out of his pockets, I was a city ('burb) boy.

Don't forget dancing bear.

Around 1990? Back when I was a stay at home dad, the the show was reintroduced. The Cap and Mr Greenjeans were there, though older, (esp, Mr Greenjeans!) they had a new young sidekick, his first name was Cosmo, he was probably in his mid fifties...

After retiring from the Shows maybe even before, Bob Keshan had a career, as a realtime explainer of operas for the audience. Werner Klemper (Colonel Klink) did the same thing. May they both Rest In Peace.

It's a little known fact that the dancing bear used to manufacture acid for the Grateful Dead.

I'm just sayin.

I used to watch Sky King too. And Clutch Cargo, and Charlie Chan, and Hoppity Hooper and Beany & Cecil, and the King & Oddie (might be too midwestern a reference) and that puppet-submarine show, etc.

Are we (not you, Lynne, just me) old, or what?

Twisted, CK dancing bear was a cousin to G. Dead dancing bear, who was a sibling of the Cal bear™ and whatever one it was who laughed and was a shill for auto parts. I think the shared 'cid contributed to the extinction of the Cal griz...

Thaz what I pull back, through the fog, anyway..

Jaybro,

ekat, Jingy and I had quite a discussion on this topic. Ekat pointed out that several people younger than her age area were physically like peeps alot older than her cause of different things.

e & J pointed out that it is who you are and what you are and how you are that is the main criteria NOT the numeral.

I then recounted that someone had recently pointed out to me that the Sherpas do not have birthdates....they are named by the day of the week they are born on. Hey, Just call me Monday..or Groovy Tuesday is nice also. : ))

It's a fascinating topic that comes to me often. One aspect is how to combine a fresh view, and resiliance, through a lens of extended experience with an uncarved block, sort, of world view.

hey there.. say, i remember him... only saw him for a bit, before school....

say, i remember that i wanted to do more art work, after seeing that show... i like to cut and paste, etc...

say, did they do a weather-share everyday, too??? think they did... i like the share time from mr green jeans, as it seemed connected with the great outdoors...

thanks for ol' memories here...

say, johnboy, say, i remember the rifle man... it was a good father-son type thing...

say, i recently met the "young kids" real life brother (the one that played andy, in the laramie show).... he is a very nice man now---all grown up... (i think his brother, that played mark, if that was his name, now has some kind of a music show that he does, somewhere in southern calif????) (big band stuff, i think it is)... laramie was a good old western with a family theme, too, dont know if you remember that one... (i was seeing it by re-runs, as it was a bit before my time, too)....

edit... oops, forgot to add---yep, i liked bunny rabbit, too...
