Hi all, long time no post. Got a doc appointment for the fancy guy in a couple weeks. Hopefully the shoulder is fixable or no climby for me. :(

Anyway, i have a friend in Arlington, WA that has a dog stuck on a ledge 60 feet down a 250 cliff. Search and Rescue has tried to help her, but the dog is avoiding them. She was thinking about drugging the dog but I was thinking it would get woozy and pitch off. If there's anyone willing to go out there and lower her down, that's probably what needs to happen. She's waiting on Animal Control to open and get one of those dog catcher nooses, but she asked me to try you guys.

She does have some rappelling and climbing experience, but SAR won't lower her for liability reasons.

Maculated - Try posting on the Washingtonclimbers.org site or on cascadeclimbers.com

I know in the past some WCC members have rescued dogs.

EDIT: I placed a link on CC.com and emailed a friend in Arlington.

Hope something works out.

Thanks so much, Darryl. She gave me permission to post her number as I have to go out and I can't keep checking messages:

When he gets hungry, won't he walk back up the same way he got down there. (or down, if he walked up?)

I guess it fell down a fourth-class ledge. No walky up.

Anyway, crisis averted dog, saved by Search and Rescue.

Glad to hear we have a happy ending.

One day Jim E and I went cragging, my dog followed up a sketchy 3rd-class approach. Came time to descend, we didn't want to downclimb, but what about the poor dog? Ended up loading all 65 pounds of her into a rucksack, which I think Jim ended up carrying as we rapped off. So trusting she was, just her head sticking out the top.

Let's not forget that Darryl Hatten died rescuing a cat out of a tree.

That's one lucky dog. Glad the pooch is okay. Maybe next time, it'll be outfitted properly!
