how 'bout them cowgirls

I felt the rush of the Rio Grande into Yellowstone
And I've seen first-hand Niagra Falls
And the lights of Vegas
I've criss-crossed down to Key Biscayane
And Chi-town via Bangor, Maine
Think I've seen it all
And all I can say is

Chorus:
How 'bout them cowgirls
Boys ain't they somthin'
Sure are some proud girls
And you can't tell them nothin'
And I tell you right now girls
May just be seven wonders of this big, old round world
But how 'bout them cowgirls

She's a ridin' colts in Steamboat Springs
Bailing hay outside Abilene
She's trying hard
To fit in some city
But her home is 'neath that big, blue sky
And the Northern Plains and those other wide open spaces

Chorus

Boy, she don't need you and she don't need me
She can do just fine on her own two feet
But she wants a man who wants her to be herself
And she'll never change, don't know how to hide
Her stubborn will or her fightin' side
But you treat her right and she'll love you like no one else

Yeah, how 'bout them cowgirls
Boys ain't they somethin'
Sure some are proud girls
But you can't beat their lovin'
And I'll tell you right now girls
May just be seven wonders of this big, old round world
But how 'bout them cowgirls
How 'bout them, boys?

Nice. I love old country. Waylon Jennings is probably my fav, but george strait, george jones, Cash, patti, Hank I, it's good...

You guys should check out James McMurtry, if ya get tha chance. IMO he's probably one of the best songwritters of the generation...

Hank,

That's true man! Once a redneck always a redneck. I tried to avoid it, but it's like any 88 short bed chevy. It's never dies....

Family Tradition

Country music singers
have always been a real close family
but lately some of my kin folks
have disowned a few others and me
i guess its because
i kinda changed my direction
i guess i went and broke the family tradition

they get on me wanna know Hank
why do you drink?
(Hank) why do you roll smoke?
Why must you live out the songs that you wrote?
over and over
everybody made my prediction
so if i get stoned
I'm just carryin'
on an old family tradition

I am very proud
of my daddys name
although his kinda music
and mine ain't exactly the same
stop and think it over
put yourself in my position
if i get stoned and sing all night long
it's a family tradition

Don't ask me Hank
why do you drink?
(Hank) why do you roll smoke?
Why must you live out the songs that you wrote?
If I'm down in a Honky-Tonk
Some ol' slicks tryin to give me corrections
I'll say leave me alone
I'm singin all night long
it's a family tradition

Lordy, I have loved some ladies
and I have loved Jim Beam
and they both tried to kill me
in 1973
when that doctor asked me
Son how did you get in this condition
I said hey sawbones I'm just carryin on
an old family tradition

So don't ask me Hank
why do you drink?
(Hank) why do you roll smoke?
Why must you live out the songs you wrote?
Stop and think it over
Try and put yourself in my unique position
If I get stoned and sing all night long
It's a family tradition!

all my rowdy friends (have settled down)

All my rowdy friends have settled down and it seems to be more in the laid back songs.
Nobody wants to get drunk and get loud.Everybody just wants to go back home.
I myself have seen my wilder days and I have seen my name at the top of the page,
but I need to find a friend just to run around. But no one wants to get high on the town
and all my rowdy friends have settled down.

And I think I know what my father meant when he sang about a lost highway and old George Jones I'm glad to see he's finally getting straight,
and Waylon staying home and loving Jesse more these days,
and nobody wants to get drunk and get loud and all my rowdy friends have settled down.

and the hang overs hurt more then they used to and corn bread and ice tea took the place of pills and ninety-proof,
and it seems like none of us do things quite like we used to do
and nobody wants to get high on the town and all my rowdy friends have settled down.

Yeah I think I know what my father meant when he sang about his lost highway and Johnny Cash don't act like he did back in '68
and Kriss he is a movie star and he's moved off to L.A.
and nobody wants to get drunk and get loud and all my rowdy friends have settled down

yeah me and my rowdy friends have rowdied on down.

hey there standing strong... three cheers for all these country singing cowboy-types and all the down-home stuff....

gives one a right-nice easy-going feeling, when listening to it...along with some added deep gutsy rythem when needed--meaning the more faster paced bits by such as waylen, garth brooks, criss ledeux, etc)

yep, george strait is right up there... and cant forget
ol'hank senior, for sure....

Yup, I spent a lot of years living on the shores of the Georgia Stait...

Oh. Wait. Y'all are talking about country music, not Canadian Oceans.

But yeah, it don't matter who's in Austin... Bob Wills is still the king.

our town

And you know the sun's settin' fast,
And just like they say, nothing good ever lasts.
Well, go on now and kiss it goodbye,
But hold on to your lover,
'Cause your heart's 'bout to die.
Go on now and say goodbye to our town, to our town.
Can't you see the sun's settin' down on our town, on our town,
Goodnight.

Up the street beside that red neon light,
That's where I met my baby on one hot summer night.
He was the tender and I ordered a beer,
It's been forty years and I'm still sitting here.

But you know the sun's settin' fast,
And just like they say, nothing good ever lasts.
Well, go on now and kiss it goodbye,
But hold on to your lover,
'Cause your heart's 'bout to die.
Go on now and say goodbye to our town, to our town.
Can't you see the sun's settin' down on our town, on our town,
Goodnight.

It's here I had my babies and I had my first kiss.
I've walked down Main Street in the cold morning mist.
Over there is where I bought my first car.
It turned over once but then it never went far.

And I can see the sun's settin' fast,
And just like they say, nothing good ever lasts.
Well, go on now and kiss it goodbye,
But hold on to your lover,
'Cause your heart's 'bout to die.
Go on now and say goodbye to our town, to our town.
Can't you see the sun's settin' down on our town, on our town,
Goodnight.

I buried my Mama and I buried my Pa.
They sleep up the street beside that pretty brick wall.
I bring them flowers about every day,
but I just gotta cry when I think what they'd say.

If they could see how the sun's settin' fast,
And just like they say, nothing good ever lasts.
Well, go on now and kiss it goodbye,
But hold on to your lover,
'Cause your heart's bout to die.
Go on now and say goodbye to our town, to our town.
Can't you see the sun's settin' down on our town, on our town,
Goodnight.

Now I sit on the porch and watch the lightning-bugs fly.
But I can't see too good, I got tears in my eyes.
I'm leaving tomorrow but I don't wanna go.
I love you, my town, you'll always live in my soul.

But I can see the sun's settin' fast,
And just like they say, nothing good ever lasts.
Well, go on, I gotta kiss you goodbye,
But I'll hold onto my lover,
'Cause my heart's 'bout to die.
Go on now and say goodbye to my town, to my town.
I can see the sun has gone down on my town, on my town,
Goodnight.
Goodnight.

i know 1990 wasn't too long ago, but here's another goodie:

chasing that neon rainbow

Daddy won a radio
He tuned it to a country show
I was rocking in the cradle
To the crying of a steel guitar

Mama used to sing to me
She taught me that sweet harmony
Now she worries cause
She never thought I'd ever
Really take it this far
Singing in the bars and

Chasing that neon rainbow
Living that honky tonk dream
Cause all I've ever wanted
Is to pick this guitar and sing

Just trying to be somebody
Just wanna be heard and seen
I'm chasing that neon rainbow
Living that honky tonk dream

An atlas and a coffee cup
Five pickers in an old Dodge truck
Heading down to Houston
For a show on Saturday night

This overhead is killing me
Half the time, I sing for free
But when the crowd's into it
Lord, it makes this thing
I'm doing seem right
Standing in the spotlight

I'm chasing that neon rainbow
Living that honky tonk dream
Cause all I've ever wanted
Is too pick this guitar and sing

Just trying to be somebody
Just wanna be heard and seen
I'm chasing that neon rainbow
Living that honky tonk dream

Daddy's got a radio
He won it thirty years ago
He said, Son I just know
We're gonna hear you
Singing on it someday

Well, I made it up to Music Row
Lordy, don't the wheels turn slow
Still, I wouldn't trade a minute
I wouldn't have it any other way
Just show me to the stage

I'm chasing the neon rainbow
I'm living that honky tonk dream
Cause all I've ever wanted
Is too pick this guitar and sing

Just trying to be somebody
Just wanna be heard and seen
I'm chasing that neon rainbow
Living that honky tonk dream

Oh, I'm chasing that neon rainbow
Living that honky tonk dream

Take Me Home, Country Roads

Almost heaven, West Virginia,
Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah River.
Life is old there, older than the trees,
Younger than the mountains, growin' like a breeze.
Country Roads, take me home,
To the place I belong:
West Virginia, mountain momma,
Take me home, country roads.

All my mem'ries, gather 'round her,
Miner's lady, stranger to blue water.
Dark and dusty, painted on the sky,
Misty taste of moonshine, teardrop in my eye.

Country Roads, take me home,
To the place I belong:
West Virginia, mountain momma,
Take me home, country roads.

I hear her voice, in the mornin' hours she calls me,
The radio reminds me of my home far away.
And drivin' down the road,
I get a feelin' that I should have been home yesterday,
Yesterday.

Country Roads, take me home,
To the place I belong:
West Virginia, mountain momma,
Take me home, country roads.

Take me home, country roads.
Take me home, down country roads.

i hate everything

He was sitting there beside me throwing doubles down
When he ordered up his third one he looked around
Then he looked at me and said I do believe I'll have one more
He said I hate this bar and I hate to drink but on second thought tonight I think
I hate everything

Then he opened up his billfold and a threw a twenty down
And a faded photograph fell out and hit the ground
And I picked it up and he said thank you bud I put it in his hand
He said I probably ought to throw this one away
Cause she's the reason I feel this way
I hate everything

I hate my job and I hate my life
And if it weren’t my two kids I'd hate my ex-wife
I know I should move on and try to start again
But I just can't get over her leaving me for him
Then he shook his head and looked down at his ring
And said I hate everything

Said that one bedroom apartment where I get my mail
Is really not a home it's more like a jail
With a swimming pool and a parking lot view
Man it's just great
I hate summer, winter, fall, and spring
Red, and yellow, purple, blue, and green
I hate everything

Well I hate my job and I hate my life
And if it weren’t my two kids
I'd hate my ex-wife
I know I should move on and try to start again
But I just can't get over her
leaving me for him
Then he shook his head and looked down at his ring
And said I hate everything

So I pulled out my phone and I called my house
I said babe I'm coming home we are going to work this out
I paid for his drinks and I told him thanks
Thanks for everything
