hey there clint cummins... say, as to that ol bear down at the base of a climb... wow... say, if he decided to have a picnic and kick back and relax--you all would have been playing eagles-in-the-nest for quite some time on that wall waiting for him to move on, if you were coming down of course... wow...
say, how long til he did move on? ... what a view, too.. thanks for the bear-share...

hey there misha... say, as to that picture of the bear there, it amazing how the can look like large dogs, YET, behave like large dangerouse cats----meaning in the attack of the use of the paw, and etc... and the tree-climbing.. and such... what a combo of skills.... good thing they can't FLY.... (sure dont need a bird action added on here)....
(course, they dooooooooo eat berries, but thats okay)....

We were planning to come down, eventually. At the time, I had just led the 3rd pitch of Central Pillar of Frenzy, and my partner was following - about to clear the lip of the roof. (That's my excuse for a fuzzy photo - trying to belay at the same time). We still had the other 2 pitches to go, so we had awhile on the rock still.

The bear took about 10-15 minutes to walk along the base and check out all the packs. My partner had some dried apricots, so the bear ripped the zipper and ate them. My pack had some empty plastic bags; he ripped it open as well - they probably smelled like the food they once contained.

It was the first time I had seen a bear at the base of a climb (I have not met Bear 46 yet).
This summer we saw a bear at the base of Glacier Point Apron:
August 17, 2007 - below Monday Morning Slab (bear to left, climbers to right)
It took 10-15 minutes to walk past. The climbers at the base of Harry Daley left shortly after it did....
