Brick, you are good...Spring Lake Wall it is.

I am over at my dad's house on his computer right now...mine won't start up...gives me some black screen with a message about Windows not starting properly..."This might be due to a software or hardware change." It then gives me a choice of options to start Windows but it always reverts back to the same screen and message...Windows will not start. Is this what happens when your hardrive is busted?

I have a cool picture of "The Citadel", another awesome wall, but if my computer is down, I am not sure when it will get scanned.

Wow Jody. However, is that really a dome?

"orientation of the jointing/fracturing"

I know, I know, what does it really matter...
it's a beauty.

Anyone got any pics of SAR Dome, Big Red Dome, and Wildcat Point near Glen Aulin? Or anything beautimous down in the Grand Canyon of the Tuolumne?

I'm back...My hard drive crashed and I lost everything on it...photos, e-mail addresses, the works. I am absolutely bumming right now. I had to reinstall the software and in the process the hardrive was wiped clean. Would you think any less of me if I cried?:)

Yes Nate, you do have a point. Let's just call it my favorite piece of rock in the Sierras. Sorry about the frontal view being chopped off at the top...that was just a flatbed scan from a print. I'll try to find the original slide and scan it...whoever made the print chopped off the top for me.

Okay, I have to go cry now.

Dome stands for "Diametrically Oval Moutain Exposed"

Ok, Maybe not.

Jody, Sorry to hear about your drive, and sorry that you reformatted it before investigating the numerous options for retrieving the data from it. There are services and software.

If you didn't do a low-level format of the drive and didn't all tons of stuff to it already, you still maybe be able to save some files that you didn't back up. I'm a Mac guy so I can't give you specific info on the software.

I won't remind everyone how important it is to back things up cause I'm scared it's bad luck, and like a lot of things, I lack the discipline to follow my own advice 100%. Just lost some cool Josh pictures that I thought were backed up but weren't

Peace

Karl...I called technical support and described my problem and they said I was screwed and needed to re-formatt. Some of my pics were backed up on cd but it had been a while before I had done any more of them.

Funkness...you must have been by SLW in a dry year. Those pictures I have posted were in late July and we had tons of snow as you can see. There was a vertical wall on east side of Glacier Pass(the x-country route from Monarch Lakes) and the glissade after jumping off the cornice was awesome...probably about 1000'.

Brick, I only have photos of Lone Pine Peak from the east...I might have one of Fish Creek Wall stashed away...no promises.
here is what I think is one of the most dramatic walls in the Sierra...Not really a dome...

Funkness...A: Grizzly Dome/Arch Rock Tunnel
B: Looks like one of the domes around the Dinkey/Bald Mtn. area but I am probably wrong.

Mine...hint: not all that far from Spring Lake Wall

Nope. Hammer Dome (aqueduct, not a road) and Calaveras Dome.

Gemini cracks.

Nate,

A few from the Desolation area, though there are probably more…

Guide Peak
Devil Peak
Middle Mountain?
Keiths Dome
Etc.

There are numerous other unnamed domes in the area.

Jody,
Tragic. I'd be crying too.

funkness,
Nice view of Hammer Dome.

Minerals,
Don't know the Desolation area at all, unfortunately. Got any pics?

Gene already emailed me directly with the correct answer and more images of this beautiful cluster of domes. You are all welcome to keep guessing. Here's a hint:

Okay, my guess, it is the Balls? Just outside the southern boundary of Yosemite.

Okay, not a dome, but a nice face...where is this?

No idea Jody. But the slabs and faces to the right look pretty inviting.

Anyone have pictures of Castle Domes (near Window Peak on the Mt. Pinchot topo)?

Here's a beautiful high-country fin-like dome (in the center). (not my picture)

Nope, this is in the sierras. (I know the rock looks a little dark in this photo.)
I believe this is the view across the valley, another BIG wall. Regrettably, I've never been here. (both are in Secor's guide).

I6 miles? it's been awhile, but it's still fun to dream, eh? (I could maybe hike that far in the time it now takes this thread to load!)

I'm pretty sure this dome is across canyon from Angel Wings, but I don't have a map (not that it's labeled anyway), or Secor's guide at the moment.

Ah, but alas, I found a picture of Castle Domes (although they look more like spires to me). Have you climbed on them Brick? Is there any published route info out there? Maybe it's best that there isn't.

Untouched, or possibly they are all bolted by now...
