I don't pretend to come from the golden days, but what I do know of Russ, he is the real deal. Bring it on folks, alot of you are the old timers.
From my very limited experience with Russ, he is a down to earth good man.
My hat's off to you Russ, you certainly always treated me well.

1982 or '83. me and dick cilley are punching away at "dynamic panic" in josh (yeah, we both did it that day so SUKIT) and the fish comes trolling along. it's about 11am on a freezing december morning and he's sporting a hawaiian shirt and has one gnarled gobi-riddled mitt wrapped around an OE800.
russ sizes us up, glances up at the route, squints one more time at dick and i, and intones: "this route's big and burley, boys. do us proud".
whereupon, without another word, he walks off into the cold morning sun. dick shot him a quick sneer then went back to eyeballing the sequence we were experimenting with. i watched, slackjawed, as this strange apparition disappered into the blue winter desert air......
true story, boys and girls. ten gets you fifty russ don't remember a bit of it.

Russ ya probably don't remember...but ya saved me from the BIG HOUSE!!! Of course late at night in Josh, "BACK IN THE DAY", Jerry the Pin Head and Boone are tooolin'. Of course we're "socializing" in the CG and Booner is out for a bust. MANY of US are including Tapes bros, Mikey Paul, the Lachinski's, Mooney and "others" are hanging in a site with too many cars and too much fragrance comin from the site. Booney and Pin Head show up outa no where and we scatter like roaches (no pun)Well yer highsteppin it through the dessert and I'm in pusuit to keep up with you figuring you know where to go. Well all in all, I make it back to my site later and Pinner comes by and tells me if it weren't for you I'd been busted... Boone wanted you!!!! Thanks a million bro! I'll buy ya a beer when I meet up with Pauly.

I've never met Fish, but when I get back to JT someday I'll see if I can get in on a climb with the legend.
But I can say that the first thread I ever read on da-taco was the "damn russ, damn fish, damn!!!!!!!!!!!! " thread. So he must be 'FLY' (only partial-current-Fish-events pun intended)!!

I was over at the Fish Palace for poker and sushi and we are all sitting around the table after dinner and Russ is telling jokes. I had to get up and go outside so I could catch my breath I was laughing so hard. He is one funny f#cker!
