For those of you who don't already know, climbing legend John Bachar suffered multiple spinal fractures in a tragic auto accident that killed Steve Karafa (President of climbing shoe manufacturer Acopa). More info here.

A website has been set up for donations to help cover the costs of John's medical bills.

It's important to note that for legal and tax purposes, we simply can't call this a raffle, but rather a donation that allows you to automatically be enrolled into a special prize drawing. -- I made note of this in red text on the { * Make A Donation *} page.

Tim,

The site looks good, works well (it managed my donation without a hitch) and your work (and the expense you have to pay to host it) is appreciated. Probably more than you'll ever hear from folks but I know that is not why you do it.

I really hope it gets enough incoming dollars to get some to Steve's family as well.

Thanks again, brother man.

It's about the love man, it's all about LOVE...

While we're on the subject, everyone that's able to do so, needs to get out and GIVE BLOOD. I donate religiously, because it's just the right thing to do!

It seems 2 or 3 folks have received server timeouts on the PayPal side of things at this point, so if that happens, just send your donation directly to my PayPal account ((bachar.raffle@gr-outdoors.net)) and it will be adjusted accordingly.

You would think that sine they are a multi-billion dollar corp, that they could get some simple code straightened out... that or they run on an MS Server! ;~(

Tgreene,

Timing out over and over and over and over ...

You mentioned sending directly to your paypal account through paypal? Not being familiar with paypal, how do I go about doing that?

Thank you.

I just posted up a huge response from PayPal in regards to potential issues.

To bypass that though, simply goto PayPal and select {Send Money}, then use the email addy of bachar.raffle@gr-outdoors.net

I am not sure where in all of the threads about John to post this question so rather start another I will try it here (and if people feel this is a thread hijack - please do not reply and I will delete my post).

I know that John will have many medical bills by why are these not being covered by California Workman's Comp? After all he was on his way home from a business trip????? Instead should we be contributing to the Bachar legal fund so that Workman's Comp will pay for the medical bills.

A fund is a fund is a fund, and the donations will be used where they are needed, and as they are needed...

Tim-

I tried to donate a few minutes ago and kept getting rejected at the security check where you have to type the 5 character code shown. I tried a few times thinking it was case sensitive, and eventually got booted and told to use a different credit card. Is there something wrong or am I just an idiot? Thanks,

Matt

Okay, it should be fixed now... I actually spoke w/ a tech that knew what the issue was (turns out it was the frames) and gave me some work-around code to fix it...

No new information, but if anybody wants to direct others to something easier to digest than a multi-page forum discussion, there you go. :)

You can use a credit card directly through PayPal w/o having an account.

To do so, simply select the {Don't have a PayPal account? Click Here} link.

The reason for PP, is that we don't have to deal with the time and expense involve in setting up specific credit-card processing accounts. PayPal is quick, easy and secure.

I sincerely hope you'll reconsider.

Tim-

Thanks for fixing the bug. It worked this time. I'll be sure to spread the word out here in the east. What you're doing with all of this is great. Condolences to Steve's family and best wishes for a speedy recovery to JB and Anastasia. I'm sure the mounds of good karma you have generated will circle back to you soon.
