Tardy was talking in another thread about a dude called Thom Engelbach, aka the "Waste Mission".... I remembered I had a business card from him so I dug out the archives.... on the back of card was a message for Eric Goukas saying "your next victim has arrived" announcing that he (Thom) was in the Valley and ready to go climbing. Not sure if he ever got to go climbing with Goukas, as he died while climbing that same day/week. After looking through my archives, it seems a bunch of these guys are dead.... but anyway... here are some familiar names in the climbing world from long ago, and the business they were into at the time.

Russ- Was "High and Wild Mountain Guides" Galen Rowell and friends? I remember before there was Mountain Light Photography, Galen called his business High and Wild Photography.

High and Wild was out of Meyers. Jay Smith and Charlie Jenkowitz.

I remember getting pretty hammered with Eric Goukas, the night before he died.

Nice collection Fish. Maybe that drawer full of old business cards that I tried to put away has some treasures in it.

Thsoe are great. I like the "Generic School" too....funny. Also, the wood b/ground on the tree one is very nice, especially considering the business is trees.

Bwhahaha....love Croft's card. Coffee drinker AND snappy dresser! (and no e-mail!)

Some great cards here, but I think Peter's wins so far.

Funny you can tell how old they are by whether or not they have e-mail addy's on them or not.

This is hands down the best thread ever!

Especially the arrows to the backsides, which remain a mystery.

I'm gonna go rummage through my drawers (no, not my pants) cuz I think I might find something interesting there ...

Agreed Kris, this thread rules.

I think the arrows to the back probably mean more numbers or info written on the back.

I wish I had a scanner, I've got some interesting ones I'd like to add to this thread.

Wonderful collector's items. Where's John Sherman's card? I remember it being pretty funny. He probably had several.

At Alan Bard's memorial, didn't T.M. go around with a name tag or business card reading "R. Robbins"?

Mussy, reminds me of your "Shoat Bollocks" and "Head Slave" badges from Action Sports Retailer. Maybe it's time to show off your "Power and Rubber" ID as well!

Russ, blast from the past there...camped with Ray Olsen my first Jtree winter, he was selling gear to pay for gas in that big guzzler he rolled around in, trying to get to Colorado to start up Smiley Nuts, those shiny anodized ones...I've still got some old pieces on the back up rack I got from him...jeebus, flashback attack!!
