I first eyballed that face on a trip which started over by Mendel where I celebrated my 16th birthday.

great send - that line calls out from miles and miles away, screaming "Climb Me!!". One that I would love to do someday when I'm feeling quite STRONG...and ready for a huge approach.

Great TR and photos! I did the route with Peter Coward a few years ago and, likewise, had a blast. We did it in 23 hours and change car to car and found the crux was the 3rd class descent, humping back over the pass, the snowfield at the base, and the river crossing (in that order).
A great climb with miles of fantastic scenery on the approach.

I know this line is so stellar that it's appeal probably eclipses the original route on the right. I think that has some aid to be freed?
Any comments or opinions on that?

After his having declared war on San Diego climbers and the climbing community in general, I am shocked and utterly appalled that this guy has the nerve to show his face in public again.
So Art, after all the wreckage and heartache you've created at El Cajon Wall (your proud legacy?) are you now taking your campaign into the high country?
Can we get a count on how many bathook holes and convenience anchors you placed and then chopped on The Citadel? Did you "patch " them
so that no-one will ever know they were there? Well cabron, people will know because your shitty patches are as ephemeral as your shallow fits of rage.
It sickens me to think that people like you exist in the backcountry. Looks as though you're taking your war on climbers to other areas? I guess you weren't kidding about making Ken Nichols look like a rank amateur. I'm sure your children are very proud. I think I'll purposely avoid ever climbing the Citadel because I really don't think I can handle whatever you might have done to destroy this beautiful area. Perhaps this entire TR is just a ruse to get people to go out there and see the damage the Mayor of Mission Gorge is capable of? Yeah, we'll all see who Art Messier is, you'll be famous. Worrall was right, "The More the Messier."
For anyone considering stashing gear in the backcountry, consider the fact that this human paraquat was responsible for the theft of many hundreds of dollars of personal gear in San Diego. He has personally targeted Randy Leavitt and Brian Spiewak (in addition to anyone else that climbs at El Cap Wall.) Art has vowed not to rest until he has wrecked the Wall because Randy bent one of Arts hangers (thus justifying stealing gear and hardware, and chopping routes.) He's made numerous (weak) attempts to destroy the trail to the crag, chopped at least half a dozen routes, threatened climbers and now he's loose on the Eastside
God help us everyone
