If you could take one book only with you, on a long backpack trip, wall, etc., what would it be?

"A Time of Gifts", by Patrick Leigh Fermor....... in the early 1930's, Pat Fermor, in his late teens, set out to walk from the coast of Holland to Constantinope - this is the first part of the trilogy recording his journey through a Europe that only a decade later was changed forever......... read it, its simply amazing..........

I like to onsite books, and there is a dude who sets out books on the street near me. He works at a thrift shop and they get more books than they can keep, so he gives them away. Just sets them on the stoop, 10 or so at a time, and leaves them there for people to pick up at will. Make a new spin on "public library." I have gotten books I never would have thought to read through this. Right now, reading the story of Pennzoil v Texaco with Getty Oil.

So......I would probably stop by there and see what was around, choose one, and that would be the book for the trip.
