This year we added about 15 feet to the top of the wall giving us approx 65' of climbing. With the cold start we have had this winter we were able to start making ice just after Thanksgiving.

Hope you like the pics.

With no ice last spring

Early start

Climbing can be dangerous.

Yo Goat,

Hows it hanging?

If you look at the 3rd pic in that series of me climbing the bulge you'll see a PVC tube above me. That is a home made sprayer. It is basically 3 fertilizer sprayer fittings in a row about 9" apart. When it is really cold the water freezes out to where ever the unit is suspended. Then the next day you kick any ice formations off the underside to keep it from freezing in or getting to the ground.

Cool!

You'd think living in AK I'd be all set for ice climbing. I think I messed up my season by getting a new set of tools. Ice was a bit slow to form, and with the holidays I could never get hooked up with my partner. Then we had a cold snap. I don't so much mind a couple of weeks @ -20, but I'm not real motivated to climb in such conditions, though it's killer for forming big ice.

Then what do we get, one week of 40 deg temps and all that glorious ice is gone. It was bad enough to have my truck go off the road, and the following day my garage flooded.
