This was the first 5.10 I ever did. I don't know who this climber is but the photos were taken by Rich Stevenson.

What Yosemite rote is this?

IHatePlastic,

This is very entertaining, I believe those are photos from an old Off Belay magazine and the picture of the hand, yes the one with the the ring on it, is mine. The photographer Rich Stevenson caught some crap about sending that picture in from letters to the Editor in future issues. As far as the climb goes, looks like Maxines Wall to me.Do I get a postcard?

Ken

Edit: I guess I spent too much time with the details and upon further investigation it is indeed my hand. I had forgotten all about that article. Was that 1974? Thanks for the memories.

Yes all around! A fun little climb over by Royal Arches (for those of you who haven't had the luxury of visiting Allah's land.) First climbed by Les Wilson and Al Macdonald during March 24-25 1962 and rated 5.7, A3, then climbed free at .10-C now .10-A or maybe even less with snot-sticky rubber.

Wow! We have found an original picture of Ken's hand!

I think I can find something better than an old card for you. I know you weren't the first but you are a participant in the photo so that rates pretty high.

Yes, I think Ken rates a five minute bonus or handicap or whatever you call it. Considering everything. Jaybro?

Wow! Jay you are right! We did that with Tibor sp didn't we? IHatePlastic that was the first Valley 5.10 I led too. Later on that same day I felt so psyched, I led Churchbowl Tree. A few weeks later I re-led Maxines first pitch and because I didn't know any better I led the third as well in EB's and patched Levis. I have photos somewhere and may still have the ring which was my first attempt as a silver smith which I made under my Great-Uncles tutelage.
