I went to Banff Film Festival last night in San Rafael and in the program guide there was a "Where are they now" page. It mentioned Sonnie Trotter and Didier Berthod from the Cobra crack video from last year's showing.
Didier Berthod apparently has quit climbing since his knee surgery and is living/working in a Swiss Catholic Monastery.
True?
I thought he had done a bunch more stuff in Indian Creek but maybe I am getting my dates/timeline confused.

Didier's the master, and a helluva nice guy, too. I remember looking down on him from Bermuda Dunes when he was climbing the monster offwidths below El Cap Spire, and he cruised 'em, taking in these great no-hands rests as he locked off with his feet.
And knees.

He was pretty adimant about being a christian in the return to sender so it would not be completely unusual! Maybe he is up with the Saint Bernardus monastery in the Alps skiing in and putting up new routes!

I also heard he was in a Monastery. One of his last routes in IC was "Fear of Flying." Sounds like he wants to let the "Angels" specialize in defying gravity. I wonder if they made him give up smoking?

Some monasteries will permit you to stay there as a spiritual retreat, obviating the need to be clergy. There's a place in Malibu, the Serra Retreat, that lets groups or individuals stay there for prayer or quiet contemplation. Gary Hart stayed at a monastery or something pretty equal to it after his failed campaign. Sounds like a good way to get yourself centered should the need arise.

You mean, he traded all the women and fortunes of professional rock climbing for this?

Hi guys.
The link appears to be broken. Does anyone have the pdf or the article of the link? Dider Berthod was a big inpiration, and would like to read the article (my other friend will provide the translation, which I would gladly share).
thanks a lot!
