The Event Horizon telescope is set to release its first images tomorrow after 2 years of rendering data.

The data was compiled by a virtual telescope the size of Earth and over 200 scientists.

of the many articles floating around, this one is one of the more accurate.

Advances in astrophysics like this and like the photos from the Pluto fly-by are why being alive today is the greatest thrill. What we get to observe just blows away what any previous generation got to observe, exciting as the invention of powered flight and initial space travel were. This is just SO TOTALLY COOL!

I love this stuff.

Well said Nick.

I think it's cool too that Einstein and his predictions are once again proven to be correct with use of our modern day technology.

EDIT:

That is a great article Mike.

Oh grow up! There is no independent reality (see What is Mind thread). Black Holes are a collective creation of, um, our minds or something.

Here is a black hole joke:

Two astrophysicists approach the event horizon of a black hole...

That's too funny, rr.

Roger's joke was pretty good, too.

Just see the gross materialists staring into a black hole all while life itself completely eludes them ....
