F*#k work.

Well, sh#t.

I gotta differ.

Do I love my job? Damn right I do. I get to write whatever I feel like writing, and people pay to read it.

Does it afford me the ability to go on lavish vacations and buy anything I want? Well, since I'm not lavishly inclined, yes.

Sure, if my desires ran to first-class airfare to fancy hotels in upscale tourist meccas, then I'd be whining. But my work puts me in fancy hotels in interesting cities all over the world, and I don't mind flying in the back of the bus, so it kind of balances out.

And, anyway, I don't give a rat's ass, cuz work is ending in about six months. and the place I'm retiring to may be obscure, but it sure ain't chossy.

Ever notice that "work" is a four-letter word? I put in 240 hours in the past 3 weeks.

What I would tell my 18 year old self, though now that I'm here, I can't un-love my wife and family.

When I'm working I'm dreaming and
dreaming of work
In the meantime I'm thinking and
thinking of work
This work ethic sucks

Besides
It is killing me
loudly with its song

death and taxes

It's a middle age thing- rope soloing makes perfect sense. By extension of hating work, I hate my friends and family because they generally fuk up my routine. By rope soloing in parallel near an equally impatient and unyielding codger you can tacitly acknowledge your friendship while maintaining your happy space.

Had lunch yesterday with an 83 yr old who can't wait to get to the office every day.
Being worth $500KK doesn't explain it, he genuinely loves to work. I am sure that
being the boss helps. The funny thing is that what he's doing now most people would
consider boring when compared to what he did to make his nut. Now it's mostly being
around people and growing a business.

More gardening than climbing. Still, I managed to begin a new line. Is it bad I only went 30ft in an hour and a half?
Hahaha
It was aid, btw. Not clean, I mashed in a stopper like a head with the hammer, and a couple pins. Oh well. Theres a pin, three nuts, and a cam up there for the next lucky guy. Good luck finding the place!

It took me until the age of 45 to find exciting work that I am madly passionate about and am thrilled to do this for the next 45 years. That's good because my physical adventures aren't going to last that long.

Jonny, it can't be all that bad. You still have youth, beauty, wit, and choss. Not to mention the spiffy wardrobe. Is that a shirt with a built in vest? Unique!

I really liked (never loved) my work when in Silicon Valley during the late 80's to late 90's when stock option were not taxable benefits. Stock options were given out like candy on Halloween back then. You paid the tax on the backend. I ran my own show and was a decision maker. During that time I also did my best climbing; Hard sport, hard trad with sketchy gear, walls and boulder problems. I was also surfing at a high level and traveling all the time.

Now, I work to put my kids through college. The work is OK but the flexibility of being a engineering consultant is great. Not climbing as hard or as often. And while I'm quite a competent waterman, I'm not the guy dropping in late on a Black's Beach bomb anymore.

I think my biggest problem is that I'm getting older. And I hate everyone.
