Many passengers on our recent flight were dumped, abandoned and forced to find their own way. Spirit knew the cancellation would happen but refused a refund so we could buy another flight on a real airline. That caused us to miss two days of of a vacation trip. Thats after we paid many extra fees that are nickel and dimed from customers. In fact, most Spirit flights are delayed or cancelled. And the cheap flights quickly cost as much as real airlines when you add in the mandatory extra fees. Like for water. Like to sit next to your traveling companions. Like to bring more then a tiny one pound bag on board. Like to have a few inches of leg room. All cost extra money. Read the reviews online and spread the word. Spirit airlines is a scam bait and switch airline.

I didn't buy the tickets. Did the closing of your shoe repair company have something to do with you spending 23 hours a day online?

What was that song about spirit in the sky?
If you cut prices you gotta cut some other stuff and customer service is the first to go.

I have flown them twice to Houston, crazy cheap ticket, but you have to know all the rules. I was just going for a few days each time so I could carry a personal item, (carry on costs extra) which is plenty enough space for most sensible people. If you want to carry more stuff there are some tricks. Wear layers of clothes, wear cargo pants and load up the pockets
I had excellent trips everything on time. My sister however had a bad experience. Spirit was pulling the jetway away and someone forgot to disconnect the ground power and screwed up the plane, They spend a couple of hours trying to fix it and finally took everyone off the plane. By this time the airport had closed and they were in a terminal with no food available. The passengers finally mutinied and raided the food stand that was unguarded.
Bad experiences are available on all airlines, no extra chargae

Just nabbed a round trip ticket to Houston from San Diego for 99 bucks on Spirit. They can't possibly lose my luggage cuz i only take one personal item, hope to be there to see the Astros finish off the Dodgers.

What’s yer life worth?
Another incident for Air Canuckistan at SFO. Cleared to land then tower attempted a wave-off cause the preceding arrival had’t cleared the runway. No response. They got out the emergency red light which Stevie Wonder could see (it was dark). They continued the landing and claimed ‘radio problems’. Uh, doodz, lame excuse - you got three radios in that rig.

A couple years back I got the word my father was failing and had come to the end of his road. I immediately booked a flight, and Spirit's 6:30AM flight from Portland to San Diego was the earliest I could get.
Once boarded, we sat there and then had to get off the plane. It appears they found a broken bolt sticking two inches out of the wing. This caused a two hour delay. The plane had spent the night at the Portland facility, which means some mechanic broke the bolt and then went home, leaving the hazard to be discovered at the last minute before departure. Or not discovered, whatever.
As a result of that two hour delay I arrived at my father's house 18 minutes after he had died. He'd been asking for me. After several attempts at filing a complaint, I finally received an offer of a $50 travel voucher that was good for 3 months. You know, in acknowledgment of the irredeemable loss their negligence cost me.
Needless to say, I don't fly those shitheels anymore.
Jon Beck, for your budget flight to Houston I hope you really just have a personal item, like purse sized or maybe a briefcase. Be aware that they will charge you $55 at the gate for one piece of overhead bin carry on. Each way.

Sorry you had such a bad experience off white, especially hard not to be there when your father passed.
I fly Spirit several times a year, never had a bad experience. The passenger demographics are more on the working class side, but I do not care. I pack strategically, wear layers of clothes, and wear cargo pants. Spirit was #2 in one time performance in October.
Off to FL on United's econo-fare, no carry-one allowed. I am mailing a few items out ahead of my trip (snorkeling gear for the Keys), way cheap fare traveling on Thanksgiving.

About 5 years ago I was looking at flights to the East Coast and there was a price lower than any other, but I didn't recognize the name. I looked up the reviews: cramped seats, terrible service, delays, etc. I said no thanks, I'm not contributing to that race to the bottom.
That being said my wife did take a spirit flight recently. But it was a short flight and she had a personal item only.
