I'm going climbing in Cuba and I'm shopping for the international medical insurance you're supposed to have for travel to Cuba. American health insurance can't cover Americans in Cuba. It's not as easy as I thought.
Most of the plans on the internet have 2 major issues:
you can't get it if you're a resident of New York (as well as Maryland, North Dakota and Washington)
if you look at the fine print, they exclude injuries/death/dismemberment from climbing (and just about every other kind of sport).
I did find one plan (Patriot Adventure) which had an additional rider for extreme sports like climbing, but it's only for people under 50 years old (which I am not).
Has anyone found any plans that don't exclude climbing and are available to an older New Yorker?
I haven't tried them, but some people swear by the coverage you can get through a membership with the Austrian Alpine Club. Maybe check out whether they will cover Cuba and the sorts of climbing you want to do:
