There is a picture of Salathe and Chouinard in Camp Four, by Roper.

I am sure they were talking about pitons and tempering.

I know that Chouinard is credited with coming up with the name for the Salathe Wall, the whole west side ,of El Cap.

Not sure when Salathe gave up climbing in the valley but it appears there was interaction with the new generation before he left.

I wonder if he ever climbed with Robbins or Pratt? And how that interaction would be.
Perhaps he was a bit of a loner and only did those three big climbs, would love to hear some history while all you guys are still with us.

When was his last visit to the valley?

I wonder if he knew the wall had been named for him .

Have any of you met him, or have a Salathe story?

Maybe we could get a post from Allen Steck,, I hear he is still alive and kicking.

Being that Salathe passed away in 1992 I would imagine he know about it.

Here is an older pretty cool thread about Salathe. Started similar to this one.
