I'll be in Vietnam from December 5 - 23. I'll be spending the first week and a half with family and attending a cousin's wedding.
My plan is to fly up north to climb from Dec. 16 - Dec. 22.
I am aware of Asia Outdoors, formerly known as Slo Pony, but I'd like to know more about my other options.
I know that there's climbing in Ha Long Bay and Cat Ba Island. Are there any other areas worth checking out? Any in the south?
How easy is it to just show up in town with a rope, draws, etc and find a partner or join up with other climbers?
Any beta would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Khoi,
Just got back from there and I saw something curious at Marble Mountain (between Danang and Hoi An) - a bolted route right in the middle of the monument/park/what have you. I'll try to go through my photos and maps to specifically locate. I expect if there's one route in there, there are more.
We were also in Phong Nha for the caving (with Oxalis), which was fantastic by the way. There is amazing limestone there, just like Ha Long Bay but with fields instead of ocean below. Consider contacting Oxalis or Easy Tiger hostel, they may have the scoop.
Found this also:
"Worthy of note are Peak Co Rilata with the height of 1,128 m and Peak Co Preu, 1,213 m. Lying between these peaks are valleys which promise tourists exciting eco-tours."
We meant to contact the outfitter on Cat Ba but just ran out of time. We did end up climbing Mt. Fansipan - you can skip that one, trust me.
Lastly and perhaps most useful - there is a supposed to be a climbing gym in Hanoi that is the hot spot for North Vietnam climbing beta and finding partners. Check it out.
