Hi guys, I hope you can help - a couple of friends of mine embarked on a road trip a couple of weeks ago. The mother of one is concerned that she hasn't heard from her daughter for some time. Their plan was to fly to LA, then go to Joshua Tree, Redrocks & Yosemite. Unfortunately it was very last minute and they're not particularly organised so I don't know in which order they're visiting places.
Their particulars are as follows:-
<details removed now they've been found>
, if you've seen them in the past 2 weeks please post up here or call or text me on <number removed> - I'm in the UK so keep the time of day in mind! Hopefully they're simply out of signal range. Thanks in advance, Toerag

Toerag,

Several years ago, my daughter took a 1 year road-trip too all those places you mentioned ; as well as Patagonia.

There were times we didn't hear from her, but I was most worried when she was in Mexico, only miles from where those drug cartels murdered those musicians, cut off their heads etc, and No word from her.

Turned out the whole trip went by without any problems.

Tell her mother not to worry; although it is only natural.

prayers and be strong in the positive, We all here will spread the word that Nicky should call home.
She is in the U.S. west, that is not 'cartel' Mexico
As parents and posters we must all remember that Non climbers Frett and worry that no word is a bad thing.
That the point is to get off grid and BE , is hard to fathom for loved ones with
more sedate lives.
Let the autumn fall some more and as temperatures in the outback turn colder and wetter
We can pray and hope that Nicky and Bron pop up with smiles and great pictures and stories to tell.
ToeRag thank you and the U.S. park service has a Be On The Look Out system -
B.O.L.O's. Send an email to the locations that they were headed for Yosemite National Park
first.
If they flew into LAX then rented a car track that information down as they will be linked to that vehicle. Credit card companies are not always helpful if need be go to the right ambassador but going that route is serious business that the banks do respond to.

Again this is the Modern USA and people will see this - good on you for this post!
Communication is often interrupted by adventure
by the wide open spaces that are the American west
peace and prayers BE POSITIVE think 'Happy couple's great time' not anything/something dark.

Thanks guys - I've spoken to her dad an hour or so ago to try to put his mind at rest. She's actually done Patagonia as well and was 'off grid' for a month. That wasn't a problem as her folks knew she'd be off grid, but this time she's gone longer than expected without contact. I've done a similar west coast road trip so have passed on my knowledge (eg. bear danger) - hopefully they're simply too busy having fun to get in touch. Will consider escalating things on tuesday if there's no news.

Odds are they're having a great time, hope they make contact soon. In the absense of information it's natural for loved ones to assume the worst. Worry is a life sentence for parents....hang in there.

There are lots of places in Yosemite and Red Rock where I get zero for coverage. Locals all know where their little "sweet" spots are for coverage. But then I'm a Straight Talk guy, so I need sweet spots.

All of those places have land lines available but people don't know how to use them anymore......

I hope all is well with them.
