Just saw The English Beat put on a great show here in Seattle and they are heading south and playing some small towns along the way after looping back to the Golden State.

Dave Wakeling is such a nice guy.

Last year, The Specials played Vancouver and it was a super great show. Six days later, the English Beat played and it was just as good. Wakeling made it feel like everybody there was at a house party with the Beat.

Big fun:

Keep your eyes peeled for the Selecter. They tour occasionally and could come to your town !

Will Madness ever come to town ?

Saw Wakely and Rockin' Roger at a Nike Run Hit Wonder 10k about 15 years ago (along with Flock of Seagulls, Tone Loc, etc.). Ran with the wife, so we ran SLOW, but the upside was that when we got to them, they were wrapping up and launched into a bunch of old Beat tunes. It was awesome. Like a private show for 20 people in running clothes in the middle of some blocked off street in the middle of LA. Still memorable.

Love 2 Tone and the 2nd wave ska. Caught English Beat several times, though not recently. When I was living in Seattle in '92, the ska band Easy Big Fella practiced each week in the basement of the house I was living in. That was awesome.
Another somewhat similar band for super fun shows was Fishbone, who still tours pretty regularly.

Saw 'em in maybe '82 in Seattle, at the Hippodrome. The SBS tour. Saw 'em again some other time, can't remember where. San Diego? One year (early 90's?) the crew was at Josh. Twilly insisted we had to drive into L.A. to - ahem - "run some errands," which was Twilly code for a pending epic. Wound up at Wakeling's house, drinking. He truly is a nice humble regular guy. Last time was here in Flagstaff at the Orpheum. I'd love to catch 'em again.

Wow - didn't know there were some 2nd wave fans here...Steve Grossman you threw me a curve ball with this thread. -would have never guessed.

I was part of the revival in the 80's.

Not exactly the same "wave" as it's 1st wave styleee but within the genre; Chris Murray just played at my backyard party this past Sunday:

The Skatalites are playing in Fullerton next Tuesday at The Slidebar. Either the Steady 45's or Delirians are opening. I should be there.
