Nice photo: looks like some beautiful summer weather. Here it's about 40°F, the wind is blowing about 100km per hour and there is a horizontal sheet of stinging drizzle (which is why I'm sitting here looking at pictures of hot air balloons on a Sunday).

Catskills.
The picture is taken from the Walkway over the Hudson, a repurposed railroad bridge that has turned out to be a huge tourist attraction.
Alpine start required for this event. In order to get calm air, the balloons launch around 6 AM.

creeping California-isms if the New York definition of "alpine start" is 6 AM (though a full 3 hours earlier than the "California rules").

Dunno about Hudson valley alpine starts, but in the California desert balloon starts begin at 3:30-4am rockets on for the dawn patrol...
But it's a wild Wild West out here, and we have to get our rockets fired earlier cuz we keep Foolin' around!
