Is instability the reason why the park stopped maintaining the I. C. trail? Cool pic! Hope no one was heading up (or down) that way today.

Planned rockslide? (joking)

Must unnerve the people living in the upper village area.

The photo is pretty dramatic. I've been poking around up there my last few visits in anticipation of doing the canyon. Now, I might wait a few years.

Any damage to utility lines running up the canyon?

The east side of Indian canyon has a thick shielded telecom cable snaking its way up along the base of the cliffs. Alongside the cable is a maintenance trail that at times includes 30 foot welded metal ladders and support cables. It's a full on industrial scene up there. This info is from having walked down that cable trail after doing Knucklebusters

I took my ten year old son down that canyon a few years ago...that photo looks scary! Those metal ladders in there might have been damaged by that.

Interesting that this was in the evening. I would have guessed more rockfall to occur during dawn/morning when things heat up and expand. Though, I suppose any change in temperature that puts strain on things can lead to fracture.

A little more discussion on rockfall here -- http://www.nps.gov/yose/naturescience/rockfall.htm

Holy batshit Batman.
I was up there Facelifting two years ago. A lot of questionable looking rock looming over the canyon on both sides as far as Lehamite Falls. I stopped there since my garbage bag AND my daypack were full of recovered phone maintenance detritus.

Phone lines are out to the Meadows.
You'd think they'd go microwave wouldn't you? But maybe not. Big ugly towers and they would be susceptible to big winter storms.

Gonna be a time consuming job to fix those phone cables. They were taken out in a big snow slide in about 2008 or so. GStock would know when.
They were out for months.
That was the mess I was picking up. All the discarded bits of wire, wire connectors, insulation etc.
When I got back I reported it to one of the Park Service rangers working with Facelift and they said they'd report it to the Phone Company as their contract was to clean up their mess.
I didn't go back up last year to see if they really had.

Thanks for posting the pictures. Looks like it was a fairly large slide. On a side note, maybe pulling all that sh#t out of the upper canyon is a little past due. Anybody else feel the same?
