Just giving red envelopes although my wife and I exchange them.

Regarding the dumplings, she puts coins into a bunch of them. The person who scores the most coins will have the best luck in the year. Is that common in your part of China?

Since my daughter is a Horse, she has to wear something red every day this year according to Mom.

Probably spelling this wrong but...

Goon hee fot choy, lai see do loy!

(my effort at Cantonese)

Edit: Best explain this. The "lai see do loy" part roughly translates to "now give me some lucky money". My wife's family is 100% longdu, but amazingly many of the elders speak 3 Chinese dialects and English; basically 4 languages. Wife is a native San Diegan.

Could start by needing to see the dentist after biting into it. ;-)

Also handy to have someone trained in the Heimlich Maneuver at the table.

From our permanent Chinese Community history display room in the Courthouse Museum.Mr. Norman Jew--nothing to make up here--owned the Hong Kong Restaurant here in town, next to our dad's business office.

There is at least one gong, maybe two in the display, but you kids leave it alone, it's not for public dispays. It's just an artifact.

Funny thing, BITD. The Frat House in college, then drafted for 2 years in the Army, but the drunkest I ever got, was a Chinese New Years party here in NYC.
Carrying a huge wad of cash, falling down drunk in the subway in Brooklyn. Somehow survived that to knock over a sh#t ton of furniture when I got home.
Was barfing for the next 24 hours.

I met a chinese woman who told me her name was Jew Dong.

I asked her what the odds were that we had the same name.

I wonder what year Catherine the Great died in.
