Dropping like flies!!

And I should know, CIRJB!!!!!(*)(*)

Kevin, point well taken but for me there are other issues. I know this is a forum for climbers rather than a climbing forum but the OT content and the ensuing drama has gone, at least for me, over the top.
Maybe it's the angst that becomes more prevalent in the depths of winter, maybe it's just what the forum has become. The fact remains that 80% of the threads currently on ST can be found anywhere on the internet. Those threads based on the posts they elicit dominate the content of ST.
As i aproach my 70th birthday, the sands running ever faster thru the hourglass, i have decided to dedicate this year to some climbing goals. A climbing forum can serve like a support group and this does if you are willing to dig. Unfortunately, i find myself getting sucked into the muck and morass of the bulk of discussion here.
I need to take a sabbatical while i get on with my goals. I'll peek in to see if i can find a nugget or two.

Not quitting, just disengaging. I need to focus on some things, read climbing, for awhile.

Be well Donini. Best wishes for success in your upcoming endeavours. Serious stuff you've mentioned a while back.

Donini, I hope to just make it to 70. The fact that you still are living your legend is badass. Look forward to hearing about your upcoming year.

Like they say, "Take what you want and leave the rest."

The trouble arises when folks refuse to "leave the rest" and start grinding people on what they, personally, don't agree with. Such a person should start a blog and sound off there. We don't need policing here.

I agree with donini, life is too short and precious to not STFUAGC.

Can't we default to doing New Orleans style wakes around here? All the doom and gloom over nothing is a bit melodramatic.

Some people packed their toys and left? Okay. Some others got banned? Yeah, that summary crap happens here with more frequency than the suck sacks would like to credit the almighty Oz. Somebody else says they want to refocus elsewhere? So what?

More power to Donini, he's a master troll, intriguing writer, and also entitled to do what he loves most: climbing.

It's not t*r's fault.

Her content was pretty meaty, worthy of discussion.

The drama was people's reaction to her's and other content, and no one is to blame for that except for the people who react and constantly bicker about it.

Case in point: Starting a new thread simply to say that couchmaster's post deletion thread is silly (or stupid, or whatever).

Maybe couchmaster's thread is silly, buy why the hell is an entirely new thread necessary, rather than simply commenting on the thread in question?

Donini's not the only one. How often do Croft & Robbins post here? What about Caldwell, Rodden, Honnold, Potter, Hill, etc? Unless they fly under the radar... Why would they want to, with all this fluff and bickering and people who get all bent out of shape when boobs disappear off the site? They're too busy doing things that are actually important to them, which is probably the reason they reached their elevated status in the climbing world in the first place.

I'm a nobody and don't expect to be missed, but I share Donini's sentiment. This place has become much less compelling.

The one thing we all have in common, above all, is that we are all indoors sitting in front of a computer. Yes there have been a few 4G linkups but for the most part its a forum for people bored in front of their computers who wish they were out climbing.
