I saw this on eBay listed as an "Ice climbing protection device." Now, I am the first to admit I am not a fan of routes that disappear during the summer but I did think I knew quite a bit about the equipment used... But, WTF?
Someone please enlighten me (and not in the Werner way.)

Fishing rope through holes drilled in ice for anchors. The rubber cover stops snags. Just a guess

Interesting!
Thanks for that Chief!
I had never seen this technique or even the idea of rapping of a pillar of ice a few inches thick. I believe I will stick with rock...

If I learn or do nothing else today, I can say I have watched someone go fishing while ice climbing. God I love fishsticks! Thanks, IHP and Chief.

Is it true that Jeff Lowe showed the V thread to Abalokov, who popularized it and the world assumed it was Abalokov's invention?
Maybe Jello can comment.
The v thread is totally bomber in good ice and sure beats rapping off electrical conduit

Or leaving behind a couple of seventy-dollar ice screws at each station. V-threads are fast, easy, cheap, and probably safer than any alternative.
