I always lost picks, tried playing with the plastic tabs from loaves of bread or coins, but eventually gave up picks altogether. I should probably cultivate it a little bit to get that nice tone with steel strings.

Those are all some good links! Thanks for posting. I have to say though, Andres Segovia is THE master. I think that guy played for 80 years before he died.
Edit: Correction - he started playing at age 6 and played until age 96!
