Cascade conditions are fabulous. This trail was a posthole nightmare 10 days ago. Fresh tracks from the volcano's rim to the car - 1:15 minutes of bliss.

Yeah I am working here this winter and it has been amazing!

Lots of powder. Saw a guy explode out of "once is enough" today and just everything went flying in all directions, skis, gloves etc.

Deepest and lightest powder I've ever skied in 22 years of living here, had the last 4 days off and have skied everyday, lucky me.

There's a time to ski and there's a time to climb, such great choices!

pushed 720 miles to get home today. tired.

yesterday ranks as one of the best days of my life. my boy, 4, was not really digging the skiing but yesterday asked to ride the chair lift. so fun watching him tackle his fears and take it all in stride. he got off the lift without falling, and we had a great run down, most of which was with me skiing him between my legs. He rode up twice more with my wife and was skiing by himself at the end.

Tessa took a lesson on her first day and demanded to take another one on her second day. Yesterday she skied with me and we crushed the blues off Saddleback Express at The Canyon's. At the end of the day we skied down to Tombstone, a different experience for her, but she took her lane assignment without my help and busted through the gate right when it opened and got on the lift just fine. Oh, did I say she crushed Chicane on the way down to Tombstone???

It was storming a bit on the ride up, and a much more gnar lift ride than she was used to. I was complaining about the cold, but she was having the time of her life. She actually wrapped HER arms around ME to keep me warm.

She then killed Red Pine Road and honestly there were a couple of times I had to start rippin to catch up.

Can't wait to go back, maybe in April. Love my life, love my wife, love my kids.

Saturday skied Sierra at Tahoe.....4+ feet of some amazingly light snow. It was light through all 4 feet of snow. Zero wind with it too. Soooo many people getting stuck.
Sunday...skiid Northstar...not as much snow but still good and a little more wind affected. More classic "sierra powder"..............
Monday Skiied 5+ laps down the water line (right under the GONDI) at Heavely. Epic. Great coverage on the lower half too. The snow had settled a bit by then but still deep and sick!
Now gotta study more pathophysiology and finish some other studies so that I can do it again...this weekend....more POW POW is on the way!

Charlie D......hahah on my drive back I almost stopped and snagged some turn down to the Leap in hope of catching a ride back to my car..Maybe this weekend.

Salad,
Teaching my two boys to ski were the best of times. They can't remember being a non-skier, truly a great investment for the rest of your lives together. They are both long gone, one up in Bozeman and my oldest in SLC working for BD. Lot's of fond memories and fun reunions in the mountains ranges of the world. Enjoy the moments and remember you will only ski as fast as your kid just one day in your life! BTW they are great for busting in skin tracks!

Backcountry skied the long weekend around S Lake Tahoe. Waterhouse on Saturday - initially the snow was too deep and unconsolidated. Trail breaking was close to waist deep. We could ski only straight down the hill. Very mixed up snow with warmer layers as it fell. Skiing got better and better as the snow consolidated and by Sat afternoon we could start to turn on steeper terrain.

Sunday and Monday were much better. Toured Echo Peak Sunday - mid thigh deepness and some of the best snow of the season. Skied Freel Peak Monday. It's far enough out there were no snowshoing snowboarders to destroy our track (unlike everywhere else around Tahoe). Was quite a bit of work breaking trail the last few miles, but the skiing was amazing. More mid thigh dry pow and cold temps.

The backcountry conditions on the eastside are about as good as it gets. Very stable with few slides. Some northern exposures up high got blasted by high winds Sun afternoon. North-east exposures seemed to be protected. Mc Gee is super good right now , Skied Laurel yesterday - excellent powder. More on the way- cold smoke they say :) Ps the mountain was beat but as of today the glory wind-buff has returned.:)
