"oldster" means someone over 65. Aside from gymnastics, mid 40s is the prime of most people's athletic lives if they stick with it.

Reminds me of the whole "Climb your age" thing. You know, Nine-year-old climbs 5.9, thirteen-year-old climbs 5.13, etc etc. Probably only a question of time before a fifteen-year-old hikes a 5.15.

But there's a limit to that, and I've often thought a more reasonable yardstick for the old grumps on ST would be "climb your age, with handicap." Sure it's great that 44-yr-old Porter J can climb 5.14, but eventually age will catch up to even him. So if old dud golfers can be proud of an 18-hole score of 105 because they've got a handicap of 33, why shouldn't we come up with some rigged system to make us feel goo too?

How about: Current top level minus your age in decades. So for elderly cripples like me, 5.9 (i.e. 5.15 minus 6) would be the equivalent of TC or Sharma cranking 5.15. And if I actually get up a 10, I can spray on 8a.nu about "Kids today can't climb for sh#t..."
