Was it "folklore" that this band was always way more popular in U.S??
(than Canada)
New Doc coming out... should be good.

I was about 1% more wanker in gr 11 than I am now, and my neighbour walked in when I was listening to 2112. "This is sh#t," he pronounced, and handed me a cassette, "try THIS."
Sex Pistols, Never mind The Bollocks on one side, Wire, Chairs Missing on the other. After 30 seconds of listenign to the fist band, I knew I'd never listen to Rush again...because if I did, they would come and beat me up, from beyond the grave if necessary. The second band, Wire, showed me that real art is more about the "how" than the "what:" all of Rush's work, despite it's heavy-handed intellectualism, never approached the provocative and elliptical allusiveness of even the title of a Wire record. End of story.
But...you gotta hand it to them...they stopped being Led Zep wanna-bes and did their own thing, which is cool

What?
RUSH had a totally different sound and style than Zep.
Whatever...

I never "got" Rush and their fan's devotion to them. Even at their peak (sic) they came across like knockoffs of hundreds of other black TShirt glittering cryptic logo stagelight and sound system howlers that were preening the civic auditoriums at the time.
Now the legions are whining about Rush not being indicted into the Rock n Roll hall of fame and I'm thinking "Put those wankers on the same stage as people like Iggy Pop? Who put the stupid in the smack this morning?"

"Wind
In my hair
Shifting and drifting
Mechanical music
Adrenaline surge...
Well-weathered leather
Hot metal and oil
The scented country air
Sunlight on chrome
The blur of the landscape
Every nerve aware"
Live they sounded exactly as they did on the radio, Lp's and cassettes.
First time I saw them at the forum in LA I remember I lost my car, (actually a giant silverado 4x4) and had to wait around until 4am when the parking lot thinned out to find it.

I Love RUSH.
Prog rock is my genre. 2112. I played the heart out of that album.
Had already decided to go see the documentary film here in San Diego on Thursday.
Gonna go see them in August in Irvine.

Wire....Led Zep.....Pistols.....Iggy.....Rush....
Boy, that's quite the shift in genres. I'm a fervent fan of each, and to compare one against the other (and then exclude the others) is to deny yourself of some of the greatest musical experiences one could have.
Rush produces a greater wall of sound as 3 musicians than most any other band, and they do with with vision, style, and power. In the realm of rock music, it is almost unheard of that a band has stayed together for as long as Rush, remaining healthy & friends, and still producing compelling music.
Yes, Rush kicks ass.

RUSH_ my all time favorite band. first saw them in 1980 and have seen them many times since. 2112, farewell to kings (route i did with burke), first album, and so many great others..
My first FA in the valley was named after Rush song: Something for Nothing on the cookie:
Something For Nothing
Waiting for the winds of change
To sweep the clouds away
Waiting for the rainbow's end
To cast its gold your way
Countless ways
You pass the days
Waiting for someone to call
And turn your world around
Looking for an answer
To the question you have found
Looking for
An open door
You don't get something for nothing
You can't have freedom for free
You won't get wise
With the sleep still in your eyes
No matter what your dreams might be
What you own is your own kingdom
What you do is your own glory
What you love is your own power
What you live is your own story
In your head is the answer
Let it guide you along
Let your heart be the anchor
And the beat of your own song
You don't get something for nothing
You can't have freedom for free
You won't get wise
With the sleep still in your eyes
No matter what your dreams might be

1976... Mom got us tickets, Me and Ken. 12yrs. old.
"general" seating. Hockey arena. Fans rushed the doors, broken glass, mayhem...
The show was... loud, and incredible... smoke filled the place... sweet
pungent aroma. Like nothing I'd ever...
The whole experience indeed "blew me away", and the doors were opened.
Thanks Mom.
