As an Access Fund regional coordinator I received an email recently saying that the BLM is thinking of putting in a new campground near New Jack City and is requesting comments.

The announcement is at:

if you care to respond.

Re: Roughster "access fees guaranteed"

If that's what it takes to keep idiots from trashing one of the most beautiful and unique regions of the Southern Mojave then I'm all for it. The only BLM area that I know of that charges an access fee is Red Rocks, NV. I've noticed that RRocks is almost totally devoid of litter, broken glass, shell casings, OHV trails, etc. That's a price I'm willing to pay.

My back story on this issue is that I've been climbing at NJC since 2004 and have noticed a significant decline in aesthetics of the place. In addition, the disrespectful behavior of others makes it a place that I will no longer camp at(and I used to consider NJC my home!) I feel that having this place more formally zoned and managed(with the addition of a campground host), NJC could be revitalized.

But if you disagree with me, I encourage you to articulate your opinion and rationale to the BLM.

I have to agree with Tom Tom. Major trash dump by the campers. There was a discarded carpet and under pad, cans, bottles, melted plastic, old pans, etc around my regular bivy spot last time I was there. Morons don't seem to believe in leave no trace, only what and how can I trash the place.

I have to write in right away, and ask them to include a rifle range in the setup. There's nothing like sending a few rounds downrange after a day of pulling hard.
