Overview
Mt. Humphreys (13,986’) is one of the prominent peaks comprising the Bishop skyline, along with Basin Mountain and Mt. Tom. Just shy of 14,000 feet, it looms above town with a distinctive, angular summit. Several routes exist on Mt. Humphreys, with the East Aręte being the most solid and enjoyable.

The East Aręte of Mt. Humphreys, first climbed solo by Norman Clyde, follows interesting and exciting climbing to reach a summit with widespread views of the
Humphreys Basin and uncountable alpine lakes. With almost a mile of climbing along an exposed ridge, this technically easy route requires excellent routefinding skills and mental focus for an extended period of time.
