From back in the days of old school rock climbing pioneers such as Yabo and Cos to the new era of today’s rock climbing stars such as Sharma, the enduring sandstone boulders of Castle Rock have been bouldering school for most local climbers. The Vaqueros Sandstone at Castle is like something out of another world. Honeycomb caves, sculpted arętes, tafoni pockets, and strange cannonball shapes protruding from otherwise smooth blank walls of khaki stone all coalesce in your eyes, body, and mind, helping to relieve the boredom of the familiar, everyday world. The highest concentration of boulder problems in the Bay Area is side by side with great sport and trad crags. All this combined with legitimate access from one easily located parking area makes it the most popular all around rock climbing venue in the Bay Area. Notable Bouldering Problems
