Vogelsang - High Country Conditions
Tuesday May 15, 2012 10:32pm
We hiked up Vogelsang Peak last weekend, 5/12/12. Some of you might be curious about conditions up there.

There's only patchy snow below 9000ft and the average depth at 10k is just a few feet or so. Not enough of a pack to set up the Sierra Cement we know and love; it's all sloshy by the afternoon, you sink all the way through. What's left is melting fast. Not a single stinking skeeter though!

I uploaded an exhaustive set of photos here:

These should give you an idea:

QITNL doesn't care if you think he's a climber. He has been chastised for not posting Trip Reports, but this is a just a bunch of pictures with a TR on top, whatever, pop the cherry. Like most TR's it will probably sink like a brick. t*r's float, TR's are heavier than heavy.

Nice shots. I'll forward this link to my sis and bro in law who are heading up there for some hiking.

It's interesting that you can see that white line from foot traffic going up the shoulder of Half Dome where the cables are. It's like Reed's Direct x 30.
