Trip Report
Trains, Goats, and Peak Bagging Fourteeners in Colorado
Monday August 5, 2013 12:40pm
Here's a photo trip report from Colorado's San Juan Mountains.
I had some days alone and I decided to go into the San Juans and do some peak bagging. I climbed three beautiful 14'ners deep in the range. Sunlight, Windom, and Eolus.
Access to the trail head is by the Durango to Silverton narrow gauge railroad. A unique and fun way to start the trip.
The mountains are so beautiful and the local wildlife is very fun to hang with!
Be careful where you pee around the Goats though! They love pee, the salt I guess, and they will follow you around all morning waiting for you to pee! Kind of odd. If you don't want goats in your camp then make sure you pee away from your tent.

All aboard!

Cool TR.

I rode that train with my dad over 20 years ago. He's a big fan of steam locomotives and builds miniature ones as a hobby.

Hope to get back there and ride it again soon.

very nice. I rode that train back in the eighties. That's a neat way to get to a trailhead.

Nice memories, taken that back in to go to Wham Ridge. I have distinct memories of that train's unique smell and the cinders.
