TADMO BL TRIP #2 Mo's 1st.
Monday October 2, 2017 4:27pm
Mo had not gotten the chance to take a NorCal coast trip this year now that the van build is almost complete.
So she suggested we head over Fri. & Sat. nights for some R and R with the additional goal of finding some redwood burl materials for a table and shelves project she wants to do. (I'll end up doing it) ;)
I said cool and told her we can stay at the Orick area stealth site I found on my solo trip in June. :)

Mo left work at noon Fri. so we could be on the road by 1:00 for the trip over on Hwy. 299 which due to the recent Helena Fire is closed except for timed openings at 9am, noon and 3pm thru the burned area. Got to the controlled area about 2:20 at Junction City and waited in line for the 3pm pilot vehicle.
Once rolling the devastation of the fire became apparent for the next 5 mile stretch of the Trinity River canyon.

So we finally get over to the coast, head north on Hwy.101 and get to the Orick
stealth site about 6:30. We ate supper, had a couple drinks, popped some corn in the microwave and watched a movie before rockin the van for the 1st time if ya know what I mean.
Sorry no pics ;)

Slept well then woke Sat. morn to coffee, donuts and a clearing view of the coast.

Headed into Orick to shop raw redwood burl material for the table and shelves project. Found and purchased some nice pieces for the proj. and loaded them into the van.

Spent the rest of the day Sat. chilling and beachcombing in the area, had it pretty much to ourselves. :)

Woke Sun. morning and after breakfast took our time heading south to take more pics of the northern Humboldt coast.

We both love this area of the north state. :)

Headed back home to make the noon opening of the highway.
We were home at 2:00 in time to watch the 49ers lose to the Cardinals in OT. :(

Until the next trip,
Tad n Mo

Gneiss trip & photos. I like that area, but I'm sorry for the Trinity River canyon, until it heals.
