Exploring Kirkwood Lake
Wednesday July 31, 2013 1:27pm
Went to take the girls clamping last week at the potholes and old camp bluff. unfortunately, they want more to camp at the potholes than a hotel room here in south lake taco so we opted for kirkwood lake instead. i went there with a girlfriend last year, but we never found any bolts and she was against using any natural anchors so we never climbed. this year i had more time to explore and search for climbs. plus now i have gear and a year of experience under my belt so we were not denied. the first day we set up camp, went for a swim and then i left the girls at the lake to go look for a climb. i found a wall with some bolts that looked like it would get evening sun so i went and gathered them up and got our gear. it's small wall with only a couple climbs, one easy and one not so much

the not so easy climb (looker's left) is missing a hanger on the first bolt

while we were out looking for climbs the next morning the old guy from the camp site across the road put this on our picnic table. jasmyn and skylyn were asleep before 11, but the kids behind us were up talking until past 12. even so, all they were doing was talking and occasionally laughing from inside their tent. glad to have the guy gone.

Dammit, U Gumby! You have too much fun, looks like.

I like dogs at the crag and who doesn't like loudmouth brats besides that unhappy camper?

I like this TR (read the "here" link, folks).

That note is hilarious. Loud mouthed brats LOL! I wonder if those people realize notes like that just make you laugh at them not shame you into silence.

when i first visited there in 1977 we found bolts and fixed pins on quite a few of those crags. Its the the magical mini wonderland.
guessing they were the same bolts. not completely confidence inspiring in several cases

the south facing area west of the lake has newer bolts and at least 4 sets of good anchors.
the stuff on the other side of caples creek looks inviting
