Trip Report
A few days in Joshua Tree National Park
Tuesday November 20, 2012 11:17pm
Phylp and I had three splitter days of being able to basically hop on great moderates, meeting awesome people at every turn.

Day 1, lotsa routes on Dairy Queen Left, with good-vibed East Side climbers, and a late-day visit to Echo Rock running into a way psyched tweener-and-dad team.

Day 2 was spent at the Lost Horse Wall, on The Swift and Dappled Mare, sharing the place with just a few teams, including one doing guide certification.

And Day 3 found us at Conan's Corridor, climbing a stunning concentration of sweet routes with two fun and equally stoked teams, one a soon-to-marry couple from a community inside Wrangell-Saint Elias National Park in Alaska.

The weather and route quality was exceeded only by the company.

Phylp may have glimpsed the elusive Gordon passing in his vehicle.

Yes klk, I'm coming back from a back set-back a few weeks ago which seems to have been just a normal spasm deal, and climbing seems to be good for it. i hope your shoulder is improving.

This was a really fun three days with perfect weather and a great partner. I wish we could have stayed longer, but we both needed to be back for T-day.

I hadn't been to Joshua Tree in ages - so many of my Thanksgiving week and Spring Break trips there of the past have memories of cold and icy winds. With this in mind I talked murcy into splitting a condo-like hotel accomodation with me in 29 Palms. I want to stress that if he had been with almost any other partner, I'm sure he would have camped. I take full responsibility for this pansy-assed softness aspect of the trip.

The place wasn't the Four Seasons but it had a full kitchen, big TV and wi-fi. We had both pre-made some great stews and such for dinners so we ate like Kings every night. And with the bonus of TV, we got to watch the Stanford/Oregon game, and I used my voodoo magic to help Stanford beat undefeated Oregon.

Sullly, Todd and I exchanged emails but weren't able to connect in person due to time constraints. What a sweetie he is.

Our original plan was to stop for a day at New Jack City on the way back home, but after three straight days of exercise, I was a bit too wiped out to have any enthusiasm for it. Next trip!

There is one picture missing from this TR - on the ride home we passed the Girls Gone Wild bus on the outskirts of Mojave!
