A Winter Without Snow = Sandstone Spectacular (photo TR)

Author's Note: I initially had no plans of posting any more trip reports to Supertopo due to the ongoing deterioration of content, however, another active climber advised me (paraphrased) that by neglecting to post climbing content, that we allow 'them' to win by doing so. This TR will be shorter on words because what we all need is a little less talk and a lot more action.

This winter in Southern Nevada started out very promising. A heavy snowstorm dropped 2'+ of snow 30 minutes from my house...

But that was the end of that. Considering I was coming back from a back injury, I decided to start off with something amusing before Thanksgiving - Out of Control, a rad sunny crag route

Nice! Where are the skiing shots from??

Way to get the most out of some short ass days!

I miss the desert so bad this time of year. Red Rocks especially what a special place.

Thank you everyone!

Big Mike - BUMMER man!!!!! Get out here in the Fall....give me advance notice and will make sure we get on something rad!!

Jebus - ,,,,GUFFAW. As you can see I encountered many crowds...

fluffy - The skiing pics are from Mt. Charleston, some of that Spring Mountain pow! Red Rock doesn't suck to have as a backyard, but man...Zion is rad. Love that place.

mike m - Dude!!! That's awesome!!! Way more rad and surreal than what I did. We were skiing around 9k ft, way less cool than skiing above trippy Utah plateaus.

le_bruce - Hardly parting the seas of babble here, but just trying to contribute some Workin' Man's climbing. The other TR's right now are way more rad than anything I have EVER done...the Donini, Lowe, et al one...the extension on that sweet wall in the Valley, etc...just trying to post some every-man stoke. Also, I'm not so sure I'm punching into those grades, I'm quite sure those grades are punching me out. Pow!

Grippa - Pow and splitters....Type 1 fun!

phylyp - Thank you for the complement, I just try to keep the energy level high and stoke high...keeps me from getting cranky sitting behind a computer desk about things I can't control.

Roger - Your psyche has been a huge inspiration for me, man. Hard not to be psyched and wanting to get after it when my view from my desk is of some huge goals for me - Rainbow Wall, Mt Wilson, and other awesome parts of the Red Rock escarpment.

Funny, I'm only a couple hours away, and have never been to Red Rocks. I'll have to pack up the Mini-Trax's and check it out.
WML, if you ever want a backcountry AZ climbing adventure, give me a shout. I'm only two hours away, with all the rock and no one to climb em with!

Luke,

X-15 is nowhere near as good as Jerry claims in his guidebook. Rock quality was very poor on P1, quite poor on P2 although it had the best climbing, P3 was burl dawg as hell and intriguing pro/rock/looseness, and P4 was stout and spooky. I was stressed belaying my partner and he is solid and I trust the hell out of him. We did, however, rap past Voyager which looks holy sh#t good. The 3rd pitch looks absolutely fantastic...

speelyei - might have to take you up on that! I have been eyeballing Paradise Forks, never been there, but have heard fantastic things. Any other suggested zones in AZ to visit?

Well, I'm no authority, that's for sure. I just moved here a couple years ago, and haven't really ventured around much. There's a lack of climbers in Western AZ, so I've been mostly solo tr'ing close to home. There are several granite multi-pitch slabs and domes, and a lifetime worth of first ascents within an hour of my house.
