Trip Report
26,975ft Dhaulagiri, Life and Death on the 7th tallest peak in the world
Wednesday February 6, 2019 11:13am
Below is my write up for 8163 meter (26,795ft) Dhaulagiri in Nepal. This trip report took me months to complete so I hope whoever reads it finds it worth all the time I put into it. Included are dozens of pictures and videos of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna. Fee free to ask any questions since I know information on these types of peaks is hard to find.

Heavy duty trip man. Thanks for the detailed write up. Way to grind it out up there. Nepal is a special place to me as I've visited several times.

Cheers,

One of the better trip reports I have read on this site for sure. Congratulations on both the ascent and your excellent write-up of the entire adventure. Your photos are terrific too. I cannot imagine the horror of watching the tent with Simone blow off the mountain, how the heck does one deal with that?

Awesome trip report. I think you cheated death more than once on the "mountain of storms."

I enjoyed the same views you did, from the edge of Muktinath on a scenic detour, coming back from our hike through Mustang in 2008.

What an incredible mountain!

I read it from beginning to end and loved every minute of it.

One question I have is how did you choose your logistical agency? From their names, it seems none of them were Sherpas but rather inexperienced lowland Nepalis.

The other question is who fixed the ropes? Sherpas from the other teams?

Intense. Thanks. So much of these big peaks seems to be Russian roulette, however. You can pretty much count on someone dying every year on every peak. Glad it wasn't you. This quote stuck with me re. the Everest circus:

Not a single person would summit Dhaulagiri this season . . meanwhile Mt. Everest saw a record breaking 700+ summits this season with an 11 day window of great weather.

I just don't get it. At least it seemed not to zooy on your peak.

Stay safe!
